(ALBANY) - Oregon State Police Criminal Investigations Division detectives, in conjunction with Linn County DA Office and Linn County Sheriffs Office, are continuing the investigation into Friday afternoon's officer-involved shooting on Interstate 5 northbound near milepost 236. Oregon State Police spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings says at 12:48 PM, OSP Trooper Russell Decker and Senior Trooper Huff Meyer initiated a high risk traffic stop on a black small car on the right shoulder. During contact with the lone male occupant, shots were fired. Trooper Decker, was struck three times during the shooting Hastings said. Two shots struck his back and side but were stopped by his ballistic vest. One shot struck his left foot. He was treated and released from the Albany General Hospital. Decker is a 4 1/2 year OSP veteran assigned at the Albany Office, and had transferred from the Pendleton Office about 18 months ago. The unidentified male driver was struck multiple times. The man was transported by air to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis. He remains in critical condition. Senior Trooper Myer was not injured in the incident. A 10-year OSP veteran assigned at the Albany Area Command office, Myer transferred there from the Baker City office about five years ago. All lanes of Interstate 5 re-opened at 8:00 PM. I was heading down to visit some friends on Corvallis on friday and was stuck in the traffic. Like said in the comment by JP my friends first citisized the OSP for shooting someone not even understanding the nature of the situation. it pissed me off as this is the career path I may be taking after a graduate from college.

Dear JP, Give me a gun and body armor and I don't need the police. In Suffolk County, New York they have the highest paid police in the nation. It's a real crime. Do a search and check out their salaries and benefits. And if you think in terms of good and bad and black and white, go to www.badcopnews.com Sincerely, Your Low-Life Forever, Albert Marnell P.S. My garbage, sorry, sanitation man is my hero, so is the postal guy who delivered a long awaited Paket von Deutschland in the lousy weather, lousy neighborhoods, near lousy pit bulls and fill in the blanks.

It's times like this that I wonder why we pay our police officers so poorly. Realtors, car salesmen, insurance salesmen, plumbers, electicians, and many others are paid significantly more than our police officers. And none of THEM have to put on a gun and body armor just to go to work. And when something like this happens the low-lifes will come out to criticize the police.
