Western Oregon Offering Winter Softball Clinics

(MONMOUTH, Ore. ) - Pam KnoxThree different sessions will cover four separate skill areas of softball instruction in clinics offered this winter at Western Oregon University.

A catcher's only clinic will be held on Sunday, January 20 at the Physical Education Building. A clinic for pitchers is slated for Saturday, Feb. 2. A clinic for position play and hitting will be held on Sunday, Feb. 3.

Another Honor for Corban's Rashelle Davenport

Earlier this month, Davenport was named as a member of the All-Cascade Collegiate Conference 1st team.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Rashelle DavenportCorban College junior Rashelle Davenport has been named as an All-Region I honorable mention following her first season as a member of Corban's women's volleyball team.

Davenport, a 5-foot-10 right-side hitter, ended her inaugural season as a Warrior with a team-best 314 kills and an average of 3.41 kills per game in 92 games.

Corban's Louvier Earns NAIA All-American Honorable Mention

The senior from Seattle Christian High School averaged 0.55 goals per game, 0.28 assists per game, 1.39 points per game, and 2.90 shots per game as a Warrior

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Caleb LouvierCorban College senior Caleb Louvier has earned NAIA All-American honorable mention recognition for the third straight year en route to capping an outstanding career as a Warrior.

The 5-foot-10 high-scoring midfielder finished an amazing career as part of Corban's men's soccer team by concluding with four straight All-Cascade Collegiate Conference 1st team honors, three straight NAIA All-Region I 1st team honors, and three straight NAIA All-American honorable mention recognitions.

Angels Sign Torii Hunter to 5-Year Contract

Although terms were not disclosed, The Associated Press reported that the deal is worth $90 million.

(ANAHEIM ) - Torii Hunter In a move that even stunned the central figure involved, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim agreed on Wednesday night to a five-year deal with free-agent center fielder Torii Hunter pending completion of a physical exam.

Hunter, 32, claimed his seventh consecutive Rawlings Gold Glove Award in 2007, batting .287 with 28 homers and a career-high 107 RBIs while playing 160 games. He made the American League All-Star team for the second time in his career and finished 15th in the AL MVP Award balloting.

Vikings Top Akron; Meet Colorado State in Championship Game

The game featured 17 lead changes and eight ties.

(FAIRBANKS, Alaska ) - portland state basketballSenior guard Dupree Lucas hit a floating jumper in the lane with 1:16 remaining to put Portland State up 64-63 and the Vikings went on to down Akron 66-63 in front of 2,928 inside the Carlson Center during the semi finals of the 2007 BP Top of the World Classic. Akron (1-1) missed two three pointers in the final minute that would have tied the game.

Former South Salem star Jeremiah Dominguez led Portland State with 18 points, including going 4-of-5 from three-point range. Akron had three players in double figures, led by senior guard Nick Dials with 15 points.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - portland basketballThe Portland Pilots women’s basketball team beat Utah State 68-55 Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match up at the Chiles Center.

The Pilots were led by sophomore point guard Kendra Morris who finished with a team-high 14 points. The Aggies were led by point guard Taylor Richards who finished with a game-high 16 points.

Portland (17-3-0) moves on and is expected host third-seeded Tennessee (15-4-2), a 1-0 winner over Clemson.

(BOULDER, Colo.) - portland soccerThe Portland Pilots women’s soccer team took care of business on the road to open the 2007 NCAA playoffs. The No. 2 seed Pilots knocked off host Colorado, 1-0, on Sunday at Prentup Field and advanced to a third round match next weekend.

Freshman forward Sophie Schmidt provided the game-winner early in the second half. The Pilots have now won 10 consecutive matches, nine by way of shutout.

Linfield College Sunday Sports Wrap

Marci Klimek's result at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships was the highest finish by a Linfield woman in national competition since the program transitioned from NAIA to NCAA in 1998.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore. ) - Marci KlimekWith the help of 21 points from Brian Murphy, the Linfield men's basketball team went on the road and knocked off Cal State-East Bay 81-73 Saturday night.

With 1:57 left in overtime, a Brihtani Lassiter field goal proved to be the difference for the Linfield women's basketball team as the Wildcats escaped Memorial Fieldhouse with a 69-68 win over Evergreen State.
