George Fox Bruins Ranked No. 9 in Latest D-III Women’s Golf National Poll

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - Salem-News.com SportsIn the second NCAA Division III women’s golf national poll of 2010-11 as announced Thursday by Golf World magazine and the National Golf Coaches Association, the George Fox University Bruins are ranked No. 9 in the nation with 320 points.

In the first rankings of the season, a pre-season poll taken a month ago, George Fox was No. 7 with 373 points. In their first two tournaments of the new season, the Bruins won their own GFU Women’s Fall Invitational and then finished seventh out of 10 top-13 teams in the prestigious O’Brien National Invitational in South Bend, Ind., at the Warren Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.

Bruins Add Dual Match with Pacific in Redmond, Set Schedule for GFU Invitational

On Sunday, there will be a shotgun start, with each group beginning at a different tee and all going off at 7:30 a.m.

OSU Swimming begins 2010-11 Campaign at USC

The Beavers will host their first home meet of the season when they host the NW Collegiate Relays Saturday, Oct. 9 at Osborn Aquatic Center

(Corvallis, Ore.) - Salem-News.com SportsThe Oregon State women’s swimming team opens up its 2010-11 campaign Friday when it travels to Los Angeles to clash with Pacific-10 Conference rival USC at the McDonald’s Swim Stadium. Competition will start at 12 p.m.

The Beavers welcome eight newcomers to the roster for the 2010-11 campaign, adding to the 16 returners. All but one of the newcomers is from the state of Oregon.

Faithful Willamette fans witnessed an explosive performance by freshmen Carly Hargrave

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com SportsThe Willamette University volleyball team pushed the match to five sets against Lewis & Clark College, but the Pioneers won, 25-18, 25-20, 21-25, 15-25,15-13, at Cone Field House on Wednesday, Sept. 29. Lewis & Clark appeared to have control of the match after winning the opening two sets, before Willamette battled back to tie it at 2-2, forcing the final set.

Barnett Named BAA Athlete of the Week after Terrific ITA Tournament

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - George Fox University LogoAfter going 3-1 and reaching the quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA Small College Northwest Regional Tournament in Salem, Ore, hosted by Willamette University Sept. 25-27, George Fox men’s tennis player Scott Barnett has been named the Bruin Athletic Association Men’s Athlete of the Week for Sept. 20-26.

Barnett was the No. 5 seed in the tournament, and opened up the weekend on Saturday with wins over Derek Cooley of Pacific University 6-1, 6-0, and Brian Lays of Whitworth University 6-0, 6-2. On Sunday, he advanced to the round of 16 with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 win over Steve Roston of Whitman College, but then was defeated by the No. 9 seed, Chris Bailey of Whitman, 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 6-3, finishing 3-1 in the tournament.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - The University of OregonThe honors continued to pile up Tuesday for University of Oregon redshirt sophomore outside hitter Alaina Bergsma who received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Week Award.

Last weekend, the Chandler, Ariz., native helped No. 15 Oregon (14-0, 2-0) move atop the Pac-10, after a sweep of returning NCAA qualifier Washington State (6-6, 0-2) and a 3-1 victory over then-No. 7 Washington (12-1, 1-1) that was its first in Eugene in 10 years and ended the unbeaten Huskies’ 36-set season win streak.

Oregon Finishes Ninth at Ping-Golfweek Preview

The Ducks were second among the four Pac-10 teams participating

(STILLAWATER, Okla) - The University of OregonThe University of Oregon men's golf team placed ninth following the final round of the Ping-Golfweek Preview at Karsten Creek Golf Club, won by host Oklahoma State.

The Ducks posted a score of 305 on Tuesday, finishing the 54-hole event with a 40-over 904. The Cowboys edged second-place UCLA by four strokes, ending the 15-team tourney at 14-over 878.
