Oregon Finishes Ninth at Ping-Golfweek Preview

STILLAWATER, Okla - The University of Oregon men's golf team placed ninth following the final round of the Ping-Golfweek Preview at Karsten Creek Golf Club, won by host Oklahoma State.

The Ducks posted a score of 305 on Tuesday, finishing the 54-hole event with a 40-over 904. The Cowboys edged second-place UCLA by four strokes, ending the 15-team tourney at 14-over 878.

Oregon's No. 2 man, Daniel Miernicki, tied for tenth among individuals at 5-over 221. The junior from Santee, Calif., shot a final-round 75 at the par 72, 7,403-yard course, finishing seven strokes behind medalist Pontus Widegreen of runner-up Bruins.

Robbie Ziegler tied for 28th at 9-over par, while UO's top golfer, Eugene Wong, saw his struggles continue with a 76 to drop into a tie for 33rd at 12-over 228.

Andrew Vijarro (+14, 230) tied for 38th and Isaiah Telles (+19, 235) tied for 56th among the 75-man field.

The Ducks were second among the four Pac-10 teams participating, finishing ahead of 11th-place Arizona State and 15th-place USC.

Next up for UO is a tournament at PGA West Stadium in La Quinta, Calif., hosted by UC Davis and Stanford, Oct. 10-12.
