The Mariners started Cha Seung Baek in place of Erik Bedard, who was scratched because of a reoccurring hip injury.

(SEATTLE) - Joe SaundersFor the Mariners, their game against the Angels Sunday did not begin well.

And it ended even worse.

The Angels, behind the strong pitching of Joe Saunders (2-0), salvaged the final game in the three-game series with a 10-5 victory. The Mariners had a chance against Saunders in the second. The first two hitters, Richie Sexson and Jose Vidro, reached with singles.

Western Oregon Blanks Seattle

WOU got a two-hit shutout pitching performance from freshman Jessica Wood.

(SEATTLE) - Jessica WoodFor the third time this weekend and the fourth time this season, Western Oregon has topped Seattle University in women's softball action.

The Wolves' 1-0 victory over the Redhawks on Sunday at Logan Field moved WOU's record to 19-14 on the season, while Seattle dropped to 26-9.

Oregon to Celebrate The Life of Mel Krause

Mel Krause served as a player under legendary coach Don Kirsch, and then as head baseball coach at Oregon from 1971 to 1981.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - mel krauseThe University of Oregon Athletic Department will host a Celebration of Life for legendary baseball player and coach Mel Krause on April 19th at 3 p.m. in the Club Room at Autzen.

Mr. Krause has been diagnosed with terminal leukemia, and has chosen to have a celebration of life in lieu of a funeral. To that end, 9 Innings with Mel Krause will feature nine speakers from each era of his life.

No. 8 Stanford Nips Oregon, 2-1

Stanford starter Missy Penna (26-6) pitched a complete game for the second straight day vs. UO.

(STANFORD, Calif. ) - oregon softballJunior Sari-Jane Jenkins reached base all three at-bats Sunday vs. No. 8 Stanford, but the Cardinal still held off the University of Oregon softball team, 2-1.

Oregon scored its run in the fourth inning after a leadoff walk to Jenkins. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Blair Williamson, then scored on a grounder up the middle by sophomore Neena Bryant.

Oregon State (25-21, 3-6 Pac-10) struggled offensively early, earning its six hits beginning in the fifth inning with sophomore Tarah Black leading the way with a pair of singles, leaving 12 total runners on base.

Nikki Franchi was solid in the circle for Willamette winning both games for the Bearcats.

(TACOMA, Wash.) - Nikki FranchiCombining for six home runs and 24 runs on the day, the Willamette Bearcats couldn't be stopped as they swept the Puget Sound Loggers in a Northwest Conference softball doubleheader, 7-2 and 17-7, on Saturday at Logger Softball Field in Tacoma.

In the first game, senior Valarie Barone hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first to give the Loggers an early 2-0 lead but Willamette answered back, scoring seven unanswered runs.

The opener began with strong defensive play from both teams, as Sailors and EOU pitcher Kelly West prevented any runs from crossing the plate in the first three innings.

(SEATTLE) - Jessica HallmarkWestern Oregon used the long ball to take the early lead in both games on Saturday's GNAC softball doubleheader and then held on as Seattle University failed to convert on several chances, as the Wolves swept the Redhawks, 2-1 and 4-3, at Logan Field.

In the first game, Western Oregon pitcher Katie Fleer helped her own cause with a two-run home run in the second inning.
