Oregon Tech Signs Two Basketball Standouts

Morgan Hofman averaged 13 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game and 3.9 assists for Mt View High School.

(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) - Morgan HofmanOregon Tech head women’s basketball coach, Matt Greenleaf, announced today the signing of two standout players for the 2008-2009 season.

Morgan Hofman, a 5-8 point guard from Mt. View High School in Bend, Oregon and Ally West, a 5-10 post player from College of the Siskiyous, have both signed a letter of intent to play at OIT next year.

Portland Parts Ways With Darius Miles

As a Trail Blazer, Miles averaged 12.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Darius MilesPursuant to NBA procedures with regard to career-ending injuries, the Portland Trail Blazers have requested waivers on forward Darius Miles, General Manager Kevin Pritchard announced Monday.

An independent medical examiner jointly appointed by the NBA and the NBA Players Association examined Miles and determined that the damage to Miles’ right knee is severe enough to qualify as a career-ending injury.

Salem Native Scott Bolkan Acquired by Timbers

With the addition of Bolkan and Adzemian, the Timbers now have 20 signed players for the 2008 season.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Scott BolkanThe Portland Timbers and Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy announced today the Timbers have acquired Galaxy defender Scott Bolkan and midfielder Vardan Adzemian on loan for the 2008 season.

Bolkan, 23, was a three-time All-Pac-10 selection at Stanford University. From Salem, Ore., Bolkan appeared in 66 matches - including 60 starts - during his time at Stanford.

K-State Forward Michael Beasley Headed for NBA

Beasley compiled one of the greatest seasons ever by a college freshman in NCAA history, as he averaged 26.2 points, with 12.4 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, 1.3 steals and 1.2 assists.

(MANHATTAN, Kan.) - Michael BeasleyKansas State freshman forward Michael Beasley has announced he will forego his remaining three years of college eligibility and begin preparations for the June NBA Draft.

Most national observers predict Beasley to one of the first selections in the 2008 NBA Draft, as he is projected as the No. 1 pick to the Miami Heat by www.draftexpress.com and the No. 2 pick to the Seattle Supersonics by www.nbadraft.net.

Greinke Throws a Gem as Kansas City Downs Seattle

Ichiro plated the only Seattle run in the third.

(SEATTLE) - Zack Greinke Jarrod Washburn struck out four Royals over the first two innings -- and six overall -- but in the second, he allowed a pair of home runs and the Mariners could not recover.

Kansas City starter Zack Greinke (3-0) threw a complete-game five-hitter to become the fifth American League pitcher to win three games. He also is the league's ERA leader at 0.74.

Pro Stock winner Jason Line moved into a tie with Jeg Coughlin while Tony Schumacher remains atop the pack in Top Fuel. Cory McClenathan claimed his first Top Fuel win in more than a year, and Tim Wilkerson ended a winless drought that extends back to the 2004 Sonoma event.

The Bearcats hit three home runs during the doubleheader.

(TACOMA, Wash. ) - willamette university logoWillamette University junior pitcher Nikki Franchi (Los Gatos, CA/Saratoga HS) tossed a complete-game and struck out seven batters to lead the Bearcats to an 8-1 victory over Pacific Lutheran University in the first game of a Northwest Conference doubleheader on Sunday.

PLU registered 13 hits in the second game to defeat the Bearcats 12-4 (5 innings, run rule) and gain a split of the twinbill.

No. 10 Stanford Holds On for Win Over Beavers

Jorge Reyes started his eighth game of the season for Oregon State, allowing two hits and one run in 5 2/3 innings.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Jorge ReyesThe Oregon State baseball team nearly rallied in the ninth, getting the tying run on first, but No. 10 Stanford held on for a 4-2 victory in front of 2,688 at Goss Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Stanford starting pitcher Jeffery Inman went 6 1/3 innings, allowing one run on seven hits. He walked three and struck out two in a winning effort to put his record at 5-0 this season.
