Dominguez Wins Awards at Portland State Team Banquet

The team made the school’s first-ever appearance in the national NCAA tournament, losing 86-62 to the eventual national champion Kansas Jayhawks.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Jeremiah DominguezPortland State's men’s basketball coaches gave their Mr. Viking Award to Senior Guard Deonte Huff, this year’s Big Sky Tournament MVP, a first Team All Conference Player and the team’s leading rebounder, at the team banquet in Smith Center.

Captains Awards went to sophomore forward Tyrell Mara and Huff. Leading Scorer Award went to junior point guard Jeremiah Dominguez.

Ducks Win Softball Doubleheader vs Portland State

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - oregon softball photoThe University of Oregon softball team erupted for seven runs and seven hits in the seventh inning to win, 7-1, in game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader vs. Portland State at Erv Lind Stadium.

The Ducks rallied with singles from seven of the first nine batters in the final inning, coupled with another walk in that string, to score four runs off freshman starter Nicole Latham.

Corban's Sailors Wins Pitcher of the Week Awards

Sailors' no-hitter came in a slim 2-1 victory, as the visiting Mountaineers' lone run came via a wild pitch.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Erin SailorsFor the second straight week, junior Erin Sailors (Anchorage, Alaska) was named conference and regional Pitcher of the Week thanks to a perfect 2-0 performance to go along with one save and her first career no-hitter, as announced earlier today by the Portland-based conference office.

Sailors, a third-year player out of Grace Christian High School, helped lead Corban to a 3-1 record last week that included a three-game winning streak.

Oregon State Swimmer Makes Japanese Olympic Team

On the second day of competition, Haruguchi will compete in the 200 freestyle where she is seated in the third spot.

(TOKYO) - Saori Haruguchi Saori Haruguchi won her spot on the Japanese Olympic swim team by winning the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:38.94 at the Japanese Olympic trials on Tuesday.

Haruguchi also took first place during the preliminaries with a time of 4:41.55, cutting almost four seconds off her preliminaries time to help secure her place on the Japanese Olympic team. She also beat the second-place swimmer by more then two seconds.

The Wolves score 21 runs in twinbill sweep of Saints.

(MONMOUTH, Ore. ) - Amanda FleerWestern Oregon struck early and often during a 13-2 and 8-0 doubleheader sweep of Saint Martin’s on Tuesday afternoon at the WOU Softball Field.

The Wolves scored a season-high 13 runs in the first game, but not before SMU took an early 2-0 lead against Wolves ace Katie Fleer.

Sean Anderson has achieved a .379 batting average this season, with nine doubles, five triples and seven home runs.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - sean andersonWillamette University center fielder Sean Anderson (Sr., Klamath Falls, OR/Klamath Union HS) has been selected as the NWC Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending April 13, 2008.

Anderson batted .550 (11 for 20) as the Bearcats won three out of four games during their Northwest Conference series at the University of Puget Sound.

Tamika Nurse Won't Return to Oregon

Nurse is free to transfer to another institution.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Tamika NurseOregon women's basketball head coach Bev Smith announced Tuesday that junior point guard Tamika Nurse will not return to play at Oregon next year.

Nurse played three seasons for the Ducks from 2005-08. She played in 90 career games averaging 6.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
