(EUGENE, Ore. ) - The University of Oregon defense, expected to be a strong suit heading into the 2008 season, didn’t do anything to bunk that expectation during the Ducks’ first extended scrimmage of the spring on Saturday at Autzen Stadium, barring the offense from the end zone in all but two of 14 series.
Junior linebacker Kevin Garrett wasted little time in setting the tone for the day, picking off Justin Roper’s first pass attempt on the exhibition’s opening play.

Joey Wong had a strong offensive day for the second game in a row, going 2-for-5. Jordan Lennerton, meanwhile, continued to hit the ball well, going 2-for-4 with one RBI a day after collecting three runs batted in on a home run and two hits.

(AVONDALE, Ariz.) - The top line of Phoenix International Raceway's 1-mile oval took Kyle Busch to the top of the field on Friday evening in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, as the star driver won the Bashas’ Supermarkets 200 in a green-white-checkered finish over Carl Edwards.
Busch started on the pole but lost the lead to Edwards early, as he later noted the back-and-forth nature of the event. Denny Hamlin contended at times, but at the end, it was Busch and Edwards fighting to the line.

On this night, the Mariners were a good enough team to fend off the Angels despite a two-error eighth inning that put Seattle (5-6) in jeopardy of losing a lead that Raul Ibanez and others helped build.
