SEATTLE - For the Mariners, their game against the Angels Sunday did not begin well.

And it ended even worse.

The Angels, behind the strong pitching of Joe Saunders (2-0), salvaged the final game in the three-game series with a 10-5 victory. Saunders, just the second lefty the Mariners have faced this season, allowed six hits and two runs over his 5 1/3 innings.

The Mariners started Cha Seung Baek in place of Erik Bedard, who was scratched because of a reoccurring hip injury. Baek allowed four runs on seven hits in his 4 1/3 innings.

The Mariners had a chance against Saunders in the second. The first two hitters, Richie Sexson and Jose Vidro, reached with singles. Mike Morse struck out. Miguel Cairo, playing third base in place of injured Adrian Beltre (hamstring), walked to load the bases. But on a checked swing, Jamie Burke ended it with a 1-2-3 double play.

The Angels pounded out 16 hits, highlighted by a two-run double by Vladimir Guerrero in the third, a two-run single by Gary Matthews Jr. in the sixth and Jeff Mathis' two-run home run in the seventh.

The Mariners scored twice in the sixth on a bases-loaded pinch-hit single by Greg Norton and Cairo's RBI groundout. They added a pair in the seventh on Raul Ibanez's two-run double into the right-center gap.
