Oregon State Women’s Basketball Falls In Pac-10 Season Opener To UCLA

As a team, Oregon State shot 41.7 percent from the field, while UCLA was at 44 percent.

(LOS ANGELES) - OSU logoThe Oregon State women’s basketball lost a tight decision to UCLA, 60-52, Friday night at Pauley Pavilion.

Alex Mitchell paced Oregon State with a career-high 24 points, surpassing her 23 points earlier this season against UNLV. Mitchell was 9-for-12 from the field and hit on six of her seven free-throw attempts.

Brittney Davis also reached double figures for the Beavers. She connected on five shots from the field, including two from beyond the three-point line.

Men’s Basketball: George Fox 80, Corban 74

Martin just misses triple-double as Bruins top Warriors.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - George Fox's Jack Martin is from Chico, CaliforniaJack Martin fell just two rebounds short of the first George Fox University men’s basketball triple-double in 17 years and Evan Atwater scored a game-high 23 points, leading the Bruins to an 80-74 win over the Corban College Warriors in their final non-conference game of the season Monday night here at the Wheeler Sports Center’s Miller Gym.

Martin ended the contest with 17 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds. There have been nine triple-doubles in Bruin history, the last one on Nov. 19th, 1991, when NAIA All-American center Dave Wilson posted 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 blocked shots against Northwest Christian.

Bearcats Boot Raiders

Willamette went on an 8-0 lead to take the lead for good at 14-9 and the Bearcats rolled to a 53-37 halftime lead.

(SALEM, Ore.) - BasketballThe Willamette men’s basketball team used a big first half and then cruised to a 95-81 victory over Southern Oregon tonight in Salem.

Willamette improved to 4-3 overall. Southern Oregon dropped to 3-9. The Raiders return to Cascade Conference play this weekend as they host Concordia (Friday) and Corban (Saturday).

Scott Tiefenthaler led SOU with 21 points on 8-for-11 shooting. Humphrey Jackson finished with 19 points and Ryon Poll had 11 points. Cameron Mitchell led Willamette with a game-high 24 points and a game-high 19 rebounds.

Molly Fillion Scores 17 Points, Earns 19 Rebounds, but Bearcats Fall to Cavaliers, 88-46

Concordia Limits Willamette to 26.7% on Field Goals.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Molly FillionMolly Fillion (Sr., G, Silverton, OR/Silverton HS/Linn-Benton CC) of Willamette University scored led all players with 17 points and 19 rebounds, but Concordia University (Ore.) committed just eight turnovers and limited WU to 26.7% shooting, as the Cavaliers defeated the Bearcats, 88-46, on Monday, December 29th.

The 'Cats fell to 1-5 on the season in their first action since the death of Head Coach Bruce Henderson on Dec. 8 of an apparent heart-related incident. Concordia improved to 10-1 overall.

WOU Men's Basketball: Fort Lewis 96, Western Oregon 64‏

Western Oregon made seven of its 12 three-point attempts in the first half but were held to just 1-of-9 from behind the arc in the second half.

(ST. GEORGE, Utah) - WOU logoThe Western Oregon University men's basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped Monday, December 29th, as it fell to Fort Lewis 96-64, in the first round of the Dixie State Tournament.

The loss drops the Wolves to 5-3 on the season as the Skyhawks improved to 10-3.

Western Oregon led 46-42 at the half, but it shot just 20 percent in the second half (5-25) and scored only 18 points in the period while Fort Lewis converted on 54.5 of its shot attempts and put up 54 second-half points for the win.

Women’s Basketball: George Fox 56, Warner Pacific 43

Bruins Knock Off Knights for 9th Straight Win.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - George Fox University logoClosing within two wins of equaling their best start ever, the NCAA Division III No. 23 George Fox University Bruins posted their ninth straight victory with a 56-43 decision over the Warner Pacific College Knights in their final non-conference women’s basketball game of the season Monday night here at the C.C. Perry Gymnasium.

The Bruins’ record for the most wins at the start of a season is 11, achieved by the 2001-02 and 2005-06 teams. Their record for the most consecutive wins at any point in a season is 12 by last year’s team from Dec. 18th through Feb. 1st.

The first half was a game of streaks. The Bruins scored the first five points of the game, all by Elise Kuenzi on two field goals and a free throw, in the first three-and-a-half minutes, before the Knights woke up and scored 12 in a row for a 12-5 lead with eight minutes left.

Oregon State Downs Seattle for a Fourth Straight Win

The win gave Oregon State its fourth straight victory as the game served as the final non-conference contest before the start of Pac-10 Conference play.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - OSU Beavers logoOregon State sophomore guard Calvin Haynes scored a career-high 24 points to lead the Beavers to a 59-50 victory over Seattle in action from Gill Coliseum on Monday night.

With the win, Oregon State improves to 5-5 on the season while Seattle falls to 7-5 on the year.

Haynes led all scorers as Oregon State used clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to pull away at the end. With the Beavers holding a tenuous, 52-48 lead with three minutes remaining, Oregon State nailed 7-of-8 free throws the rest of the way to secure the win.

Cavs Defeat Willamette for 10th Straight Win

Molly Fillion led the Bearcats with 17 points and 19 rebounds, including seven off the offensive glass. Alex Zennan chipped in with 13 points and Jenny Fillion posted double figures with 10 boards.

After opening the season with a loss, Concordia has posted a victory in its last 10 matches for a 10-1 record. Willamette, playing for the first time since the sudden passing of head coach Bruce Henderon, dropped to 1-5 on the season.

Cascade Conference WBB: Azusa Pacific 68, SOU 67‏

SOU Women Drop Heartbreaker.

(AZUSA, Calif.) -  Azusa Pacific sophomore forward Alex Moore-PorterIn a battle between two of the top teams in all of NAIA Women's Basketball, Azusa Pacific held off every challenge from Southern Oregon and came away with a 68-67 tonight at Azusa Pacific's Cougar Classic in Azusa, Calif.

Azusa Pacific, ranked fifth in the NAIA Division I poll, improved to 9-2 with the victory. Southern Oregon, ranked 20th in the latest NAIA Division II rankings, dropped to 9-2 overall. SOU wraps up the Cougar Classic tomorrow afternoon when they take on Hope International.
