Oregon State Downs Seattle for a Fourth Straight Win

The win gave Oregon State its fourth straight victory as the game served as the final non-conference contest before the start of Pac-10 Conference play.

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State sophomore guard Calvin Haynes scored a career-high 24 points to lead the Beavers to a 59-50 victory over Seattle in action from Gill Coliseum on Monday night.

With the win, Oregon State improves to 5-5 on the season while Seattle falls to 7-5 on the year.

Haynes led all scorers as Oregon State used clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to pull away at the end. With the Beavers holding a tenuous, 52-48 lead with three minutes remaining, Oregon State nailed 7-of-8 free throws the rest of the way to secure the win.

The Oregon State defense did its part as well as the Beavers held Seattle to just one field goal over the final 4:30. The Redhawks would only manage a put-back with 0.1 seconds remaining as Oregon State improved to 15-4 all-time against Seattle.

Daniel Deane had 10 points for the Beavers while Seth Tarver set a career-high with 10 rebounds while adding seven points in the winning effort.


Oregon State’s ability to get to the line proved to be the difference as the Beavers went 20-of-33 from the stripe while Seattle went 6-of-9 from the line during the contest.

With the score 30-28 at the break, the Oregon State defense managed to lock down Seattle the rest of the way as the Redhawks managed only 22 second half points.

For the contest, Seattle shot 21-of-57 from the floor (36.8 percent) and only 9-of-30 from the field in the second half.

Michael Wright and Shaun Burl led the Redhawks attack with 12 points apiece.

The Beavers open league play when they host No. 9 UCLA on Friday, January 2nd, at 7:30 PM in a game that will be televised by FSN.
