Oregon State Women’s Basketball Loses To Washington State

The Beavers head west to Seattle to face Washington Saturday in a 2:00 PM PT start at Bank of America Arena.

(PULLMAN, Wash.) - OSU logoTalisa Rhea finished with 19 points, but the Oregon State women’s basketball team dropped a 65-52 decision to Washington State Thursday night at Beasley Coliseum.

For Rhea, it was her team-leading ninth effort this season in double-figures, giving her 25 for her career. Rhea connected on six baskets from the field, including three from beyond the three-point arc. The three from downtown gave her 105 for her career, tying her with Leilani Estavan for third-most in school history.

Rhea also had eight rebounds to tie for the team lead.

Pirates Hit 26 of 32 Free Throws to Defeat Bearcats, 78-69

Molly Fillion scores Career-High 27 points for Willamette.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Willamette University's Molly Fillion Alida Bower scored 20 points and Whitworth University hit 26 of 32 free throws, as the visiting Pirates defeated Willamette University, 78-69, in a Northwest Conference women's basketball game on Friday, Jan. 12th at Cone Field House. Whitworth upped its record to 7-5 overall, 1-2 in the NWC. Willamette dropped to 1-8 overall, 0-2 in the conference.

Bower led three Pirates in double figures. Natalie Orrell and Cassie Pilkinton each tacked on 13 points. Tiffany Corigliano was Whitworth's top rebounder with 10 board, while Kim Bluff provided the Pirates with five assists.

Gymnastics: Beavers Score Big Win Over BYU

Oregon State has now beaten Brigham Young five times in a row including twice in the last two weeks.

(PROVO, Utah ) - OSU Beavers logoThe Oregon State gymnastics team continued its strong start to the 2009 season with a convincing win at BYU. OSU’s Jami Lanz and Mandi Rodriguez swept the all-around competition en route to the 194.550-188.975 victory.

Oregon State, which is ranked ninth in the Preseason Coaches Poll, improved its season record to 3-1, while the Cougars fell to (0-4).

“We did a great job tonight. This is one of the best early season meets we’ve had in quite a while,” head coach Tanya Chaplin said. “Especially considering the circumstances of returning from Mexico with a short week and several lineup changes. It will be nice to go home to compete at Gill Coliseum.”

Fowles is Chosen as NCAA Division III Coordinator Coach of the Year

Guides WU's offense to a record-breaking year.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Glen FowlesGlen Fowles, offensive coordinator for the Willamette University football team, has been selected to receive the FootballScoop.com NCAA Division III Coordinator Coach of the Year Award for the 2008 season. Fowles coached the Willamette offense to a record-breaking season.

The Bearcats achieved an 11-1 overall record after advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs. Willamette defeated Occidental College, 48-33, in the first round of the playoffs, before losing to eventual national runner-up the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 30-27.

Katie Torland was named to the all-tournament team at the GNAC/CCAA Challenge in Pomona, Calif., marking the fourth time this season she has received that honor.

On preparing for the GNAC opener: "The practices leading up to our GNAC opener versus Alaska Fairbanks are going to give us the necessary time to put the final touches on our offensive and defensive packages that we will utilize throughout the conference season," explained Bruce.

Oregon State Travels to Arizona to Face Arizona State Thursday

Oregon State has dramatically improved its shooting numbers as the Beavers rank among the nation’s best through 12 games.

Cascade Conference Oregon Tech vs SOU Women's Basketball‏

Jacki Speer had a monster night scoring 32 points on 10-20 from the field and 12 of 17 from the free throw line, while also grabbing 10 boards for her double-double.

(Klamath Falls, Ore.) - SOU logoThe Oregon Tech women’s basketball team had five players in double-figures and shot 50.0% (13-26) from the 3-point line to claim a 78-74 victory over Southern Oregon University tonight at Danny Miles Court.

The Owls improve their season record to 10-6 and move to 3-4 in the conference standings. Southern Oregon drops to 11-4 on the year and even in CCC play at 3-3.

WOU Men's Basketball BYU 85, Western Oregon 64

The Western Oregon men's basketball team will now return home to face Saint Martin's.

(PROVO, Utah) - WOU logoThe Western Oregon University men's basketball team jumped out to an early 11-0 lead on hometown BYU but in the end it could not hold off the Cougars and fell 85-64, Tuesday, Jan. 6th.

The Wolves (6-5) hit five of their first six shots to jump out in front before the first media timeout. Western Oregon continued to hold the lead midway through the first but BYU (12-2) used a 23-8 run to close the half and take a 42-33 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, WOU shot 38.2 percent from the field compared to 51.7 percent for BYU but still managed to pull within 10 on a Stanley Ratcliff jumper with 6:26 remaining. This time the Cougars closed the half on a 19-6 run for the win. "We hung with them all night and didn't go away," said head coach Craig Stanger. "I was pleased with our focus as the team played well and competed all night. This is a good building block heading into conference play."

Tiefenthaler Sets Rebound Record as Cavs Bounce Warriors

After shooting just 25 percent (8 of 32) in the first half, Corban improved to 50 percent (15 of 30) in the second stanza.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Team logoBehind 22 points and a school record 19 rebounds from junior center Alex Tiefenthaler, Concordia University defeated Corban College 69-57 in men’s basketball action on Tuesday night.

With the win, snapping a seven game losing streak, Concordia improved to 6-9 on the year and 1-5 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. Corban dropped to 4-11 overall and 0-6 in the CCC.

The Cavaliers held Corban to just 16 points in the first half. After a Wade Douglas dunk at the 10:24 mark to tie the match at 12-12, the Warriors were held to just four points the rest of the way as Concordia jumped out to a 13-point lead with the score 29-16 at the half.
