No. 10 Beavers Notch Big Score in Win at Arizona

Four out of five counting scores for OSU scores tied season-highs.

(TUCSON, Ariz.) - Mandi Rodriguez and Jami Lanz Mandi Rodriguez and Jami Lanz each set season-highs in the all-around leading the Beavers to a season-high 196.450. Oregon State broke the 196-point barrier and scored over 49 points on all four events accomplishing both for the first time in 2009.

“This meet really tested the mental strength of our team,” head coach Tanya Chaplin said.

“We fought through some unusual circumstances and overcame our mistakes to get the win. Scoring over 49 points on all four events on the road is quite an accomplishment.”

Raiders Survive Northwest Scare

The Raiders shot 29 percent in the first half and finished the gameshooting 32 percent. The Raiders host Evergreen State Saturday night.

Southern Oregon improves to 16-4 overall and 8-3 in Cascade Conferenceplay with the victory. Northwest dropped 6-14 overall and 4-7 inconference action.

Women's Basketball: George Fox 70, Willamette 55

No. 10 Bruins Escape Last-Place Bearcats.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - George Fox University logoOffsetting a difficult shooting night in the first half with a defensive effort that forced 28 Willamette University turnovers in the game, the 10th-ranked George Fox University Bruins fought off the upset-minded Bearcats and pulled away late in the second half for a 70-55 win in Northwest Conference women’s basketball action Friday evening here at Cone Fieldhouse.

With their 13 straight victory over the Bearcats, the Bruins extended their record winning streak to 16 as they improved to 16-0 overall and maintained a two-game lead in the conference at 7-0. The Bearcats fell to 1-12 overall and 0-7 in the NWC, dropping their 11th in a row.

Lewis & Clark Rallies in Second Half to Down Bearcats, 54-49

Jenny Fillion scores 16 points for Willamette.

(PORTLAND,, Ore.) - Lewis & Clark College trailed by 12 points at halftime, but the Pioneers rallied in the second half to defeat Willamette University, 54-49, in a Northwest Conference game on Saturday, January 17th. L&C improved to 8-7 on the season, 2-4 in the NWC.

The Bearcats fell to 1-11 overall, 0-6 in the NWC.

Kimberly Kittell topped Lewis & Clark with 18 points. Margaret Dowling added 12 points and game-high 19 rebounds, while Tallera Rich scored 10 points and earned eight boards for the Pioneers.

Whitman Downs Bearcats in Men's and Women's Swimming

Schulze Wins Two Events for WU and Swims on Winning 400 Medley Relay.

(WALLA WALLA, Wash.) - Salem-News.com SportsIn Northwest Conference swimming on Saturday, Jan. 17, Whitman College defeated Willamette University in a dual meet at Whitman's Paul Harvey Pool. The Missionaries won the men's match-up, 167-22, and the Whitman women claimed a 132-65 victory.

Willamette's men fell to 1-3 on the season and 1-3 in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcat women dropped to 1-4 overall, 0-4 in the NWC. Whitman improved to 4-1 in men's swimming (4-1 NWC) and moved to 3-3 in women's swimming (2-3 NWC).

Gwen Schulze of Willamette won the women's 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:26.18 and took first in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:21.75. She was a member of WU's 400-yard medley relay team, which also defeated the Missionaries. Schulze swam the first leg of the relay, starting the 'Cats on their way to a winning time of 4:30.18.

Willamette at Lewis & Clark Men's Basketball Game Suspended at Halftime Due to Power Outage

Teams Will Resume Play in Portland on Monday, January 19th at 7:00 PM. (PST)

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Lewis % Clark CollegeThe Willamette University men's basketball game at Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, January 17th was suspended at halftime due to a power outage.

Lewis & Clark held a 35-32 lead at the intermission. Electrical power went out during halftime and was not expected to be restored until very late Saturday night.

Willamette will return to Portland on Monday, January 19th to resume the game. Tipoff for the second half is tentatively scheduled for 7:00 PM (PST), pending approval by the Northwest Conference office.

Northwest U. Wins On Bowsher’s Buzzer Beater

Northwest U. will be on the road next weekend as they travel to Ashland and Klamath Falls, Oregon to take on Southern Oregon U. and Oregon Tech.

(KIRKLAND, Wash.) - NW Christian logoNU's Brittany Bowsher's tip in off a missed shot with 2 seconds to go gave Northwest University a narrow, 56-55 Cascade Conference victory over Northwest Christian U. tonight.

After a first half that saw four ties and five lead changes, Northwest Christian took a slim, 33-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The second half was no different than the first as the game was tied six times and the lead changed hands five times.

George Fox 71, Linfield 67: Bruins Overcome Wildcats for First NWC Win

Olson’s 19 points topped the Wildcats, while Wiser added 18 and Tesoro 15.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - George Fox University logoShaking off a 15-0 Linfield College run to open the second half that left them six points down after a strong first half, the George Fox University Bruins recovered in time to pick up their first Northwest Conference win of the season 71-67 over the visiting Wildcats in men’s basketball Saturday night here at the Wheeler Sports Center’s Miller Gym.

A three-pointer by Erik Olson, who had 13 first-half points, got the Wildcats off and running to start the game, and they twice took an eight-point lead, the second at 14-6 with 12:41 to go in the period on a jumper by Olson.

Men's Basketball: College of Idaho 77, Corban 72‏

Ben Potloff led four Warrior players in double-figures with 16 points and eight rebounds, with Wade Douglas scoring 15, Clay Martin 14, and Ian Logan 12.

(CALDWELL, Idaho) - Linfield Wildcats logoCraig McGee recorded his fourth-straight double-double, scoring 17 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, as The College of Idaho moved into a first-place tie in the Cascade Conference standings with a 77-72 victory over Corban College in the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The win, the sixth in a row by the Coyotes (11-8, 7-2 CCC), coupled with an Oregon Tech loss at Warner Pacific, moves The C of I into a tie with Evergreen State atop the league standings.

After a sluggish first half that saw the Yotes take a 29-24 lead into the locker room, the hosts picked up the pace in the final 20 minutes, using a Steffen Spinks coast-to-coast lay-up to cap a 12-2 run, building a 43-30 lead with 14 minutes left.
