Oregon State Women’s Basketball Loses To Washington State

The Beavers head west to Seattle to face Washington Saturday in a 2:00 PM PT start at Bank of America Arena.

PULLMAN, Wash. - Talisa Rhea finished with 19 points, but the Oregon State women’s basketball team dropped a 65-52 decision to Washington State Thursday night at Beasley Coliseum.

For Rhea, it was her team-leading ninth effort this season in double-figures, giving her 25 for her career. Rhea connected on six baskets from the field, including three from beyond the three-point arc. The three from downtown gave her 105 for her career, tying her with Leilani Estavan for third-most in school history.

Rhea also had eight rebounds to tie for the team lead.

Tiffany Ducker and Brittney Davis followed up Rhea with nine points apiece. Ducker added eight rebounds while Davis had four boards and four assists.

Oregon State shot 31 percent from the field, and made six baskets from beyond the arc. Of Davis’ nine points, six came on three-pointers, while Julie Futch connected on her only three-point attempt of the night.

The Beavers (10-5 overall, 1-4 Pacific-10 Conference) out-rebounded Washington State, 47-35, including 24 to 17 offensively. Alex Mitchell was close behind Ducker and Rhea with seven rebounds, while every Oregon State player who played grabbed at least two.

The lead changed hands four times during the game, and the score was tied seven times, but each occurred during the first half as Washington State (8-7, 1-3) held the lead for the entire second half. The Beavers got to within five, 53-48, with four and a half minutes remaining. However, Oregon State was not able to close the gap from that point on.

Jazmine Perkins finished with 21 points to pace Washington State, while Katie Appleton had 14 and April Cook finished with 13.

Washington State took a 26-22 lead into halftime, but neither team shot particularly well in the first half. The Beavers posted a 28.6 percent clip in the first frame, and were led by Rhea, who had 11 points on the strength of four throws.

The Cougars, meanwhile, shot 33.3 percent, with Cook posting a team-leading seven points.

Oregon State went into its locker room with a 25-17 advantage in rebounds, including a 13-9 mark on the offensive glass. That led to eight second-chance points for the Beavers compared to just four for the Cougars.
