Baseball Participation, Interest Continues To Grow Across Europe‏

Clinics, new federation Web sites, grassroots programs all showing growth as Europe moves toward hosting September’s Baseball World Cup.

(LAUSANNE, Switzerland) - The International Baseball Federation (IBAF) today released a series of updates on the progress of baseball’s growth across Europe, and the efforts all partners are putting towards growing the game.

All indicators, from professional players playing abroad to the increase in clinics and participation in Little League, show that the sport is growing at its fastest pace ever in Europe as the Baseball World Cup approaches in early September.

WOU Track & Field: Keifer, Loscutoff and Vander Meulen Move into Record Books‏

Keifer, an NCAA provisional standard qualifier in the heptathlon, moved into second place in the GNAC in the women's 100m hurdles.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - WOU logoMandy Keifer, Janna Vander Meulen and Andy Loscutoff all moved into the top 10 in the Western Oregon University track and field record books in separate hurdle events Saturday, May 9 at the Oregon Twilight.

Vander Meulen climbed to eighth all-time in Western Oregon school history with a time of 15.06 in the women's 100m hurdles. That time also places her fifth on the 2009 Great Northwest athletic Conference performance list.

Gilbertson Improves NCAA Provisional Mark in 800-Meter Run at Oregon Twilight

Peterson and Mattox also Improve NCAA Qualifying Results.

(EUGENE, ORE.) - Reid GilbertsonWillamette University freshman Reid Gilbertson (Lake Elmo, MN/Stillwater HS) improved his NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.61 at the Oregon Twilight on Saturday, May 9.

Gilbertson's previous qualifying time was 1:52.83, set earlier this week at the John Knight Twilight at the Charles Bowles Track.

OSU Track: Masterson Runs Fourth Fastest 800m Time in School History‏

Oregon State women's track will return to action next Saturday-Sunday, May 16-17, in Eugene, Ore. for the Pacific-10 Championship meet.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - OSU Beavers logoFreshman Casey Masterson led the way for the Oregon State women's track team at the Oregon Twilight, running the fourth fastest 800-meters time in school history on Saturday at Hayward Field.

Masterson (Eugene, Ore.) finished fifth in a 13-runner field with a time of 2:11.29, a personal best.

Lowe’s Long Ball Lifts Beavers over No. 9 Arizona State

Oregon State closes out the season against No. 6 Arizona on Friday and Saturday at 3:00 and 12:00 p.m.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - OSU logoSenior Paige Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) belted one over left field on the first pitch seen in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Oregon State softball team to a 5-4 walk-off win over No. 9 Arizona State on Thursday afternoon.

Lowe, who had already been nearly perfect with a 2-for-3 performance, posted her first four-RBI game of the season tallying a pair with her homer on top of her back-to-back RBI single at bats.

Pacific Twilight: Kongela’s 100, Johnson’s 100 Hurdles Hit NCAA Marks

The Bruins have two more meets in which to try for national qualifying times before the NCAA Division III National Championships.

(FOREST GROVE, Ore.) - George Fox logo Returning to the same site where they won the Northwest Conference men’s 100 meter dash and women’s 100 meter hurdles a week ago, George Fox University’s Dakari Kongela and Irene Johnson won those events again with NCAA Division III provisional times in the Pacific University Twilight track and field meet Saturday here at Lincoln Park Stadium.

Kongela captured the men’s 100 in 10.78, bettering the 10.88 he ran last week.

Second Straight Comeback Victory Gives Beavers Series Victory Over No. 3 Arizona State

Oregon State next travels to Portland to face the Pilots at Joe Etzel Field on Tuesday.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - OSU Beavers logoOregon State scored nine unanswered runs to come from behind for the second consecutive game and secure a 10-5 victory over No. 3 Arizona State on Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium. The win gave the Beavers a series victory over the Pac-10’s first-place team.

“This was a good comeback win and needed against a top-10 team,” Oregon State head coach Pat Casey said. “We scored seven runs over the last offensive innings and I give my team credit for staying in the game. The bullpen held Arizona State and we battled for the win.”

Ninth-Inning Rally Falls Short In Oregon State’s Loss To No. 3 Arizona State

The Beavers will return to action on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. PT., as they take on Arizona State in the second game of the series.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - OSU Beavers logoOregon State rallied for two runs in the ninth inning, but it was not enough to overcome four early runs from No. 3 Arizona State in a 4-2 loss Friday night at Goss Stadium. A regular season record crowd of 3,129 was on hand to watch the game.

Entering the bottom of the ninth down 4-0, Ryan Ortiz led the inning off by drawing a walk off of Arizona State (33-9 overall, 16-3 Pacific-10 Conference) starter Mike Leake.

(KIRKLAND, Wash.) - NW University logoNorthwest University Eagle head coach John Van Dyke announced the signing of three community college transfers for the upcoming 2009-10 basketball season.
