Surge Face Top Two Teams in NW Division

Team continues Community Work and launches International Outreach this Week.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Cascade Surge logoThe Cascade Surge face the Portland Timbers U23s Saturday at Kiggins Bowl in Vancouver, (WA), then host the Kitsap Pumas on Wednesday, June 3rd. Currently the Timbers (3-1-1) and Pumas (3-0-1) are tied for the early lead in the NW Division.

"These games will give us a good test as to how competitive we are in this early part of the season," said Surge Coach Mike Alfers, who has led the Surge to a 2-2-0 record so far.

Oregon State Drops Second Game To Stanford

The game had an up-and-down feel to it early on, with Stanford holding a 4-3 lead after the first two innings. The Cardinal posted a 2-0 lead after one, but the Beavers were able to answer with three runs in the top half of the second.

(STANFORD, Calif.) - OSU Beavers logoOregon State rallied with runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but the Beavers could not hold off Stanford late and dropped a 7-6 decision to the Cardinal Saturday night at Sunken Diamond.

Down 5-3 entering the seventh, Oregon State managed two runs in the inning off a passed ball and a wild pitch. The two runs evened the score at five, but the Beavers allowed two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

NCAA Championships: Bruins’ Stam and Krebs Earn All-America Honors in Javelin

The final day of the decathlon commences Friday at 11:00 a.m.

(MARIETTA, Ohio ) - Beth Stam and Joel KrebsJavelin throwers Beth Stam and Joel Krebs of George Fox University earned All-America honors with fourth and sixth-place finishes respectively in the women’s and men’s divisions as the 2009 NCAA Division III Track and Field National Championships got under way Thursday here at Marietta College’s Don Drumm Stadium.

Stam, a freshman from Siletz, Ore., threw a 135-10 / 41.40m to finish fifth in her heat and was the ninth and last qualifier for the finals.

Bruins Pluck No. 1 Sagehens to Stay Alive in West.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore.) - Matt WyckoffMatt Wyckoff went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, Pat Bailey slugged a grand slam, and Chad Jones set a new George Fox University single-season record with his seventh save as the No. 16 Bruins stunned the No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Sagehens 12-6 Friday afternoon at Linfield College’s Roy Helser Field/Jim Wright Stadium.

With the win, George Fox avoided elimination from the tournament after losing a 2-1 heartbreaker Thursday night to California Lutheran University.

Willamette Will Send Seven Athletes to NCAA Championships

Coffman, Mattox and Winger are Selected for NCAA Championships in Two Events Each Willamette Will Send Seven Athletes Overall.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Willamette University logoMaddie Coffman (Jr., Boise, ID/Boise HS), Kimber Mattox (Fr., Bend, OR/Bend HS/Cornell Univ.) and Jena Winger (Sr., Bonney Lake, WA/Sumner HS) of Willamette University each have been selected to compete in two events at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, set for May 21-23 at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.

The trio of two-event competitors will lead a group of seven Willamette athletes who will participate in the National Championships.

Sun Devils Hit Three Homers In 10-2 Win

The game became a 10-run affair in the sixth after McGough loaded the bases by way of a double and two walks.

(TEMPE, Ariz.) - OSU Ducks logoArizona State’s pitching stifled Oregon once again, and the Sun Devils’ offense hammered three home runs in a 10-2 victory on Saturday night at Packard Stadium.

Right-hander Jordan Swagerty (3-1) pitched six scoreless innings before surrendering two runs in the seventh to end his outing. The freshman tossed 6 and 2/3 innings for the third-ranked Sun Devils, allowing just two runs on eight hits, while dealing eight strikeouts and walking none.

Beavers Drop Series Finale To Washington State

The Beavers will return to action on Tuesday, May 19th when they face civil war rival Oregon in a midweek non-conference game at Goss Stadium.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - Ryan OrtizRyan Ortiz went 3-for-5 and hit his second home run of the weekend, and Rob Folsom went 2-for-4 and also homered but it was not enough as Washington State scored the go-ahead run in the ninth inning to defeat Oregon State 7-6 in the rubber match of their Pac-10 series on Sunday.

Ortiz collected RBI in three of his five at-bats. With the Beavers trailing 6-5 in the seventh inning, the Oregon State catcher led the inning off with his fourth home run of the year, it going to right field, to tie the game at six. The three RBI-effort was his fifth of the year, and the three hits gave Ortiz his team-leading 22nd multi-hit game of the year.

OSU Track - Masterson Breaks School Record; Qualifies for 1,500m Final

Masterson will run in the finals of the 1,500-meters this afternoon at 1:15 p.m.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Freshman Casey MastersonFreshman Casey Masterson broke her own school record in the 1,500-meters, qualifying for the finals with a time of 4:25.81 at the Pacific-10 track and field Championships Saturday at University of Oregon's Hayward Field.

Masterson finished in fifth place out of nine runners in the first heat of the 1,500-meters preliminaries and ran the fifth fastest time out of 17 runners in the two heats. Masterson broke her previous record by more than a second that she set at the Woody Wilson Open April 11.
