Northwest U. Signs Three Players for 2009-10

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Northwest University Eagle head coach John Van Dyke announced the signing of three community college transfers for the upcoming 2009-10 basketball season.

“We are pleased and excited about adding these three outstanding young men to our basketball family here at NU,” commented Van Dyke. “They are all outstanding athletes who will also fit in well at the university and be a great addition to the student body.”

Tyson Christie of Sherwood, Oregon, a 6-4, 215 lb. wing has signed a letter of intent to play for the Eagles. Tyson played at Linn Benton CC for his coach, Randy Falk, this past season and was named First Team All-NWAACC.

Christie averaged 14.7 points per game and 5 rebounds per contest. He graduated from Sherwood High School and helped lead the Bowmen to the 2006 Oregon State 3A tournament where he was named to the First Team All-tournament team.

He was also Player of the Year in the Tri Valley Conference in 2006 and First Team All-State in the 3A classification. Christie began his collegiate athletic career at Oregon State University in baseball.

Steven Waltman of Monroe, Washington and Everett CC has committed to play for the Eagles. Waltman is a 6-8, 230 lb. forward who played for coach Larry Walker at Everett CC and averaged 16 points and 9 rebounds per game.

In 2008, Waltman was named to the NWAACC Tournament 2nd team and in 2009 was 2nd team All-League and played in the NWAACC All Star game. He played his high school basketball at Monroe High School and is the older brother of current Eagle player, Jason Waltman, a freshman forward on this past season’s Eagle team.

Steven is a versatile athlete who also a member of the Monroe High School track and field team and participated in the 110 meter hurdles, triple jump, discus and 4X100 meter relay.

Stedman Richardson, Federal Way, Washington is a 6-2 guard from Highline Community College where he played the past two seasons for head coach Che Dawson. Stedman help lead the Highline team to a 22-9 season record, 15-1 in league play and the NWAACC tournament.

He graduated from Decatur High School in Federal Way and was named 2nd team All-South Puget Sound League team in 2007 and played in the 4A state tournament in Tacoma.

Stedman averaged 8.44 points, 2.32 assists and 5 rebounds per game for the Thunderbirds this past season at Highline CC.
