(BALTIMORE, Md. ) - Former Oregon football player Haloti Ngata, now a member of the NFL's Baltimore Ravens is sponsoring an essay contest for students 18 and under to help raise awareness of diabetes.
A $1,000 prize will be awarded to three winners and shared by the school, classroom, and student.
Entrants should write an essay (up to 500 words) describing a project their class can do to raise awareness of diabetes.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - University of Oregon sophomore Felicia Eastick successfully capped her season opener Tuesday with a win in the Giustina Memorial Classic, held at Trysting Tree Golf Course.
The Queensland, Australia native added a stroke to her first-day lead with a 74 final round to finish with an overall score of 217, two strokes better than Washington State’s Amy Eneroth (72-75-72-219). Kelly Nakashima of Idaho followed in third place (74-70-77-221). Read Full Article

(NEWPORT, Ore. ) - Last week, Lincoln County Sheriff's Sergeant Adam Shanks responded to the Agate Beach Golf Course in the north Newport area to investigate a Criminal mischief complaint.
The investigation revealed an unknown vehicle entered the golf course sometime during the night hours and caused extensive damage to the 5th and 6th fairways by intentionally spinning its tires while driving in several circles.
The damage to the course is estimated to exceed $1000 in repair costs. Read Full Article

(SALEM, Ore. ) - New and improved, the nine-hole disc golf course on Corban’s scenic hillside campus is ready for play and open to the public daily until sunset.
With the first tee is located at the Jeffers Sports Center parking area, golfers will find play rules, maps, and score cards helpful for veterans and newcomers alike.
The course was designed in 2000 but construction projects later eliminated several fairways. During the summer the course was relocated and updated by College personnel. Read Full Article

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Willamette University senior Ian Batch was named NWC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week after winning the Willamette Grass Course individual championship and leading the Bearcats to the team title on Saturday at Bush's Pasture Park in Salem.
Batch completed the 7,085-meter course in 22:18:63 for roughly an eight-second lead over teammate Tristan Knutson-Lombardo, who finished in second place.
