Bonds Says Goodbye to San Francisco

In 1993, Bonds left the Pirates to sign a lucrative free agent contract worth a then-record $43.75 million over 6 years with the Giants, with whom his father spent the first 7 years of his career, and with whom his godfather Willie Mays played 22 of his 24 Major League seasons.

(SAN FRANCISCO) - barry bondsThe San Francisco Giants say that Barry Bonds, MLB's all-time homerun king, will not be back next season.

Bonds says that during a conversation with Peter McGowan, he was told that his play this year far exceeded any expectations the Giants had, but that the organization decided this year would be my last season in San Francisco.

Bonds said he considers the City of San Francisco and you, the fans, my family. In 2007 Bonds re-signed with the Giants, for 15.8 million dollars.

Vikings Travel to San Diego State for Final Non-Conference Game

PSU beat Sacramento State, 35-24, at PGE Park last Saturday, scoring two touchdowns in the final 2:06 of the game.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Tremayne KirklandThe Portland State Vikings will play their final non-conference game of the year when they travel to San Diego State for a Saturday afternoon contest at Qualcomm Stadium.

It will be the first meeting ever between the schools when they kick if off at 3:30 p.m.

Portland State goes into the game at 1-2 on the season after an exhilirating second-half comeback win over Sacramento State.

The Columbia River sub-area fishery north of Cape Falcon is also CLOSED for the remainder of 2007.

(NEWPORT, Ore. ) - ocean fishing boatFisheries managers have CLOSED the all-depth Pacific halibut sport fishery off the Oregon central coast from Humbug Mountain to Cape Falcon after anglers met their quota.

Anglers may continue to fish for Pacific halibut south of Humbug Mountain, but the nearshore waters inside 40 fathoms off the central coast are CLOSED as of 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20.

NASCAR: Dale Earnhardt Jr. to Drive 88 in 08

Ralph Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s grandfather, drove a No. 88 Petty Enterprises "Oldsmobile 88" in the 1957 Virginia 500 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.

(DALLAS) - Dale Earnhardt JrMountain Dew AMP Energy and the Army National Guard will sponsor Dale Earnhardt Jr. when the popular stock-car driver joins Hendrick Motorsports for the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series campaign, it was announced Wednesday at the Dallas Convention Center.

Earnhardt, who helped design his two primary paint schemes and red car-number graphic, will drive the No. 88 AMP Energy/National Guard Chevrolets next season.

No. 3 Portland Blanks Washington, 1-0

Sophomore forward Kendra Chandhoke nearly gave the early lead to Portland with a shot in the 19th minute.

(SEATTLE) - Elli ReedFreshman Elli Reed scored the game-winner in the 81st minute as the third-ranked Portland Pilots blanked the Washington Huskies 1-0 in a non-conference women’s soccer game Wednesday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.

UP keeper Kelsey Davis made one save for Portland, which records its third straight shutout and improves to 6-1-0 on the season.

After 80 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Pilots capitalized on their 20th shot of the night.

Dennis Dixon threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, Jonathan Stewart ran for 165 yards as the Ducks defeated Fresno State 52-21 last Saturday.

The Cardinal (1-1, 0-1) is coming off a 37-0 win over San Jose State, their first shutout in 11 years.

Undefeated Wolves Big Underdogs at Cal Poly

(MONMOUTH, Ore. ) - Ben KuenziTrailing 14-3 at the half, Western Oregon rallied with 19 unanswered second-half points to defeat Texas A&M-Kingsville 22-14 last Saturday in front of 7,500 fans at Javelina Stadium. With the win, the Wolves improved to 3-0 on the season.

The Wolves will travel this weekend to take on No. 24 nationally ranked Cal Poly, who rallied for a convincing 47-19 win over Weber State in their home opener last week. Kickoff is set for 6:05 p.m.

Lady Warriors Rout Northwest Christian, 6-1

With the win, Corban improves to 4-5-0 overall, 2-1-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

(SPRINGFIELD, Ore. ) - Megan WaunchSenior Megan Waunch scored two goals and handed out an assist to go along with four other Warriors that scored a goal each, as Corban's women's soccer team defeated first-year conference member Northwest Christian, 6-1, on Wednesday night.

In its first official game ever against Northwest Christian, Corban wasted no time in scoring the game's first goal thanks to Waunch's tally in the 3rd minute.

Despite clinging to a one-goal lead, the Warriors watched as Northwest Christian tied the game on a goal from the Beacons' Jacquie Lipp in the 4th minute.

Warriors Fall to Concordia, 2-0

Heading into a stretch of four straight home games, Corban finds itself at 3-3-1 overall, 2-1-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - James DelCastilloIn a battle of two unbeaten teams in Cascade Collegiate Conference play, Corban's men's soccer team fell to nationally-ranked Concordia, 2-0, on Wednesday thanks to a pair of first half goals by the Cavaliers at Warrior Field.

After playing 110 minutes of scoreless soccer in last year's NAIA Region I semifinals, it did not take Concordia long to end its scoreless drought against Corban.

In the eighth minute, Concordia's Tyler Camp teamed with Alex Ponce for the game's opening goal.
