SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Senior Megan Waunch scored two goals and handed out an assist to go along with four other Warriors that scored a goal each, as Corban's women's soccer team defeated first-year conference member Northwest Christian, 6-1, on Wednesday night.

In its first official game ever against Northwest Christian, Corban wasted no time in scoring the game's first goal thanks to Waunch's tally in the 3rd minute.

Despite clinging to a one-goal lead, the Warriors watched as Northwest Christian tied the game on a goal from the Beacons' Jacquie Lipp in the 4th minute.

Lipp teamed with fellow NCC teammate Samantha Stewart for the Beacons' first goal ever against Corban.

Not wanting to become the first Corban team this season to fall to its Northwest Christian opponent, the Warriors scored the game's third goal in the 6th minute when sophomore Jessica Matthews teamed with Waunch for her team-leading fifth goal of the season and third game-winning goal of her young two-year career.

Just over 21 minutes later, freshman Alex Paradis got into the scoring action with her first collegiate goal to cap the first half scoring and hand the Warriors a 3-1 advantage heading into halftime.

After going scoreless for the first 20-plus minutes of the second half, Corban scored a pair of goal in less than 40 seconds as sophomore Marissa Walter and Waunch tallied back-to-back goals in the 68th minute.

Freshman Genessa Neeser capped the game's scoring with two seconds remaining on the clock when she notched her first career goal therefore giving Corban a five-goal victory over the host Beacons.

Sophomore goalkeeper Laurel Riggin began the game between the pipes for Corban and recorded a pair of saves in 78 minutes of action before giving way to fellow sophomore Jennifer Bassett for the final 12 minutes.

During her short amount of time in goal, Bassett equaled Riggin's save output with two of her own.

Northwest Christian's net-minder Bethany McAlister registered a game-high nine saves while playing all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Beacons.

With the win, Corban improves to 4-5-0 overall, 2-1-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. On the other hand, Northwest Christian falls to 0-7-1 overall, 0-3-0 in CCC action.

The Warriors will take a break from Cascade Collegiate Conference play for the next two games beginning on Saturday, September 22nd, when they host Frontier Conference member Westminster College beginning at noon on Warrior Field in Salem.
