(HAMPTON, Ga.) - A two-tire stop for Jimmie Johnson paid off with a victory Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway, turning the Chase for the Nextel Cup championship into a virtual dead heat between the reigning champion and teammate Jeff Gordon.

(DALLAS) - SMU Director of Athletics Steve Orsini announced today that he will make a change in the leadership of the Mustang football program following the 2007 season and that Phil Bennett will serve as head coach for the remainder of the year.
Bennett, who led SMU to bowl-eligibility in 2006, is in his sixth season as head coach with his career record standing at 18-48.

Oregon (7-1, 4-1 Pac-10) also garnered a first-place vote in the coaches poll, a first for the Ducks this season. As was the case last week, when UO was tabbed fifth, the current ranking is the team's highest AP placement since ending the 2001 season at No. 2 after defeating Colorado in the Fiesta Bowl. (OLYMPIA, Wash.) - Corban's men's soccer team ended its season on Saturday with a 4-0 loss to the Geoducks of The Evergreen State College despite out-shooting its opponent by three shots and playing a man up for the final 25 minutes of the game.

After suffering its first road loss of the season last night versus The College of Idaho, Corban attempted to rebound but ran into a Mountaineer squad that hit .467 (8-1-15) in the fifth and final game to pull two games ahead of the Warriors in the conference standings with four matches remaining. Jeffers Sports Center.

(BELLINGHAM, Wash.) - Mark Thorson threw five touchdown passes and Western Oregon’s defense put in another complete performance as the visiting Wolves rolled past host Western Washington 35-7 on Saturday afternoon at Civic Stadium.
