Oct-28-2007 07:38CCC Men's Soccer: Geoducks End Warriors SeasonSalem-News.com SPORTSWith the loss, Corban closes out the 2007 season with an overall record of 6-10-2, 4-8-2 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Corban's men's soccer team ended its season on Saturday with a 4-0 loss to the Geoducks of The Evergreen State College despite out-shooting its opponent by three shots and playing a man up for the final 25 minutes of the game. Evergreen scored early and often against the Warriors, as the host Geoducks got the game's first goal in the 3rd minute when Shawn Farrow scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season. Over the next 30-plus minutes, Evergreen added two more goals -- both from Jesse Wheelock -- and took a three-goal advantage into halftime. Over the final 45 minutes, Corban's offense woke up as the visiting Warriors out-shot the Geoducks by four (8-4) but could not put any of their shots into the back of the net. In the 65th minute, Corban was awarded a one-man advantage when Evergreen's Matt Andrews received his second yellow card of the match therefore automatically transferring into a red card. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the offense could not capitalize and allowed the Geoducks to put one more goal on the board via Joshua Hacker's first goal of the season off a corner kick assist from Ryan Mulnick in the 88th minute. Overall, Corban recorded more shots (15-12) than Evergreen but only got five shots on goal compared to the Geoducks' seven. Junior goalkeeper James DelCastillo played all 90 minutes between the pipes for Corban and recorded three saves, while Evergreen's Stephen Laughlin tallied a game-high five saves en route to earning the shutout victory. With the loss, Corban closes out the 2007 season with an overall record of 6-10-2, 4-8-2 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. Meanwhile, Evergreen ends its '07 campaign at 7-10-1 overall, 6-7-1 in CCC action. Source: Corban Sports Information
