(HUMBOLDT, Calif.) - This year marked the 24th Annual Celebration of Cannabis and all things "Hemp" at the Mateel Center in Redway, California which ran November 14th, 15th, & 16th, 2014.

This reporter has personally attended this event for more than 13 steady years and I HIGHLY recommend all consider attending future of these festivals!

The event featured various artists, vendors, speakers, and performers and a glorious time is reported to have been had by all in attendance as all turned out to exploration of cannabis-related issues, products and culture. Friday, the show began shortly after 8 o'clock with a Comedy showcase including Ngaio Bealum, Cory Robinson and DJ Mervin and ended just before midnight with a traditional outdoor tokefest out back.

Tickets to attend were $15 bucks per person and was a 21 and over crowd because of language and sexual topics.

On Saturday, the "Feature Day", doors opened at 11 and the entertainment initiated at high noon (of course), beginning with industrial cannabis activist guest speaking advocate of the weekend, Ms. Anna Owen, followed by the Round Valley Feather Dancers from the Pomo tribe whom graced the fest with ceremony and feather dance.

The bands 454, and Mark Zachary, Little Kidd Lost and Berel Alexander, were followed by a bit more Round Valley native dancing and then the entertainment continued with PapaFish, SEED 707, Yogoman Burning Band, Magic Bronson, and a bellydancing performance by The Rockin’ Rubies.

The West Coast’s hottest Brazilian band SambaDá ended the fest, followed by Magic Bronson.

This event is donation ran, meaning FREE, but donations are encouraged and appreciated and go toward sponsoring future Mateel center cannabis related events.

Sunday was the final day, which focused mainly on an interactive and informational forum hosted and organized by Tim Blake of Emerald Cup fame, and featuring cannabis and hemp experts.

Activists, legal analysts and medical marijuana advocates from around country were part of the panels including Kristen Nevedal of the Emerald Growers Association (moderator), Luke Bruner of California Cannabis Voice - Humboldt, Diane Richards of California Cannabis Voice – Trinity and publisher of The Trinity Gazette, Hezakiah Allen of Emerald Growers Association, Pebbles Trippet of the Mendocino Cannabis Policy Council, LaKisha Jenkins of the California Cannabis Industry Association, and Christopher Larsen, one of the founders of "Lost Coast Botanicals".

The topics of discussion included the industrial uses and benefits of cannabis and how Humboldt growers and community can utilize and benefit by such products, and they also discussed their 4th draft of the "Humboldt County Land use Ordinance" which will includes regulating commercialized grow sites for cannabis as well as he detailed requirements within, and the need to address other issues including "providing for farmworkers", wandering workers and the vagrancy issues accompanying them to the Emerald Triangle.

And to bring an end to the perfectly wonderful weekend, Pure Schmint presented vignettes from their legendary theatrical production Resin From The Dead with live music by The SoHum Girls Band which was hilarious and absolutely took the proverbial cake! The plot brought many a laughs as it was focused to be upon we aging hippies when we one day wind up in that ole folks convalescent home!

Donation requests for the play were $15 bucks a head and well worth it as there were many a laughs to be had throughout this evenings entertainment without a doubt.

The next weekend, the first Humboldt "High Grade" Harvest Celebration was held, a 2-Day event with music, vendors, panels, activities, and much more. Big names in reggae and hip hop were set to perform, including Alborosie, Dilated Peoples, Peetah Morgan, Casual, A Plus, Jah 9, Jah Sun, Bobby Hustle, and Ikronik and more.

Satori Movement produced the brand new event and considers the guiding concept behind the gala to be: "Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.”

I can agree with that.

Hope to see you all at the next Hemp Festival!
