Crimes of the One Percent Conference Update, Schedule, Facebook
Salem-News.com
Crimes of the 1% Conference, Saturday 17 March, London (Friends House, Euston Road).
(LONDON) - Campaigners who say radical changes are required to curb the power of the top one percent are holding a conference in London on March 17.
They accuse the wealthiest one percent of using "terrorism scares, wars and financial sleight of hand" to grab more power and wealth than ever before.
Official figures in the US confirm that most growth since 1980 has benefited only the richest one percent.
Organisers say this is not due to good fortune but the ruthless application of power which has reached criminal proportions in recent years.
Examples they cite include the Iraq war, the torture networks run by the CIA and NATO, and the failure to prosecute anyone from the US banking community for the fraudulent financial instruments which led to the crash of 2008.
The conference, organised by Reinvestigate 911 and supported by Quakers for Truth on Terrorism and Fairtrade coffee roaster Coffee Plant, focuses on the banking scams, the CIA and its relations with Al Qaeda, and the role of the media.
Conference Schedule Crimes of the 1% - and what we can do about them
Activists: this is not a final schedule, if you think we could fit in a 5 minute report from your campaign, please email info@reinvestigate91.org with your details
March 17, 2011. Conference sponsored by Reinvestigate 911 with help from Quakers for Truth on Terrorism, commercial sponsor Coffee Plant
The top 1% have used terrorism scares, wars and financial sleight of hand to grab more power and wealth than ever. Globalisation has been used to undermine democracy. We face a crisis of civilisation.
Many of the activities of the ruling 1% - for instance the invasion of Iraq or the torture networks - are literally criminal, but still downplayed by a cowed and centralised media and shrugged off by politicians who put party loyalty before the law. This blatant impunity has led to a sense of hopelessness which limits support for many campaigns.
However in the information age new media are undermining central control. This, the second SCADS Conference, will
* assess some of the key crimes of the top1%,
* challenge the corporate media and discuss the feasibility of an alternative current affairs TV programme to go out on satellite and the internet.
* hear from a range of campaigns and discuss the reforms needed for any campaign seeking peace and justice
