Group Offers Thousands to GOP Candidate Who Can Prove Medical Marijuana Doesn't Work

These GOP candidates are on the record in having little to no interest in honoring state's rights when it comes to medical marijuana.

Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney
Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney don't support the medical application of marijuana

(MANCHESTER, New Hampshire) - The Marijuana Policy Project and two New Hampshire patients will challenge presidential candidates Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney to back up their statements regarding medical marijuana with scientific evidence. It happens during a press conference set for Thursday at 10:00 AM.

The challenge will be announced in front of Giuliani's Manchester headquarters, featuring a mobile billboard with images of the three candidates bearing Pinocchio noses.

In response to questions asked by medical marijuana patients and supporters, Giuliani, McCain and Romney have all claimed that medical marijuana is either not needed or "too dangerous" for medical use. These statements come on the heels of numerous reports that confirm the healing qualities of medical cannabis.

Several U.S. states have legalized medical marijuana in recent years and while the federal government fails to recognize these state's rights, a increasing number of medical organizations are throwing their support behind medical marijuana.

It is clear at any rate, that these GOP candidates side with President Bush in not honoring measures passed by voters as laws in their respective states.

Story continues below

The MPP Medical Marijuana PAC will offer the maximum $10,000 contribution ($5,000 for the primary campaign, $5,000 for the general election) to any of the candidates who can prove that their claims are true.

If everyone thinks that we can use other forms of treatments, then why haven't they worked for us? Instead of just closing yourself off of information why not just look into it. Same thing about global warming, scientists said since the industrial revolution that our planet will be in slowly inclosing all the extreme gases into our atmosphere, yet no one did anything about, because of stubborn people that thought our world could never just "kill itself". People we live in a world that just go forward, time does not sit still, and neither does education nor information. I'm not saying pot is good, of course it has its ying and yangs, everything does including people. If you eat too much its bad for you, if you eat too little its bad for you, if you sleep too much its bad for you, if you sleep too little its bad for you ...etc etc. Marijuana does need to be controlled, just like money, just like your diet, just like your relationships when things get out of hand. Stop believing that its just NO good, there are good qualities in it....and really, if you don't like THEN DON'T SMOKE IT!

The problem with most people who know nothing about cannabis as a medicine,is that they unfairly and discriminately associate medical necessity with recreational frivolity. In many instances a bona fide medical cannabis user will get persecuted, arrested, fined, even jailed right along with a recreational user. Personally, neither should be harrassed, but at least people need to see that there is a difference when it comes to medical users. The problem with any drug use (including everyone's favourite drug alcohol) is the abuse of the drug not responsible, respectful, moderate use.

There have been 6 State-sponsored studies of antiemetics vs. smoked marijuana and all of them found that smoked marijuana offered patients better relief from nausea than any other pharmaceutical available. You can see them at www.medmjscience.org . I am a stage 4 cancer patient who used conventional medicine for the first 8 years of my treatment. I tried every medication available to cope with the symptoms of both my cancer and the radiation poisoning that resulted from my treatment. I found that I much prefer smoking marijuana over using a supository like phenergran because I don't like the delivery system of the phenergran and I found the side effects to be intoxicating to the point of becoming debilitating. It made me so loaded I couldn't chew my own food, let alone cook it. I also found Marinol to be vastly inferior to even the cheapest smoked marijuana, and it cost $21 per pill - and I needed 3 pills a day to eat. During the first 8 years of my treatment, I saw my doctors every month, I saw specialists several times a year, I had to go to the pharmacists several times a month because I was taking 25-35 pills a day, and I was still fighting for my life in the Emergency Room 3-10 times a year. Within 1 year of joining the OMMP I realized that my life had changed. I stopped taking all but 2 of my pills. I no longer needed to see my doctor every month. I hadn't been to the Emergency Room in months. It has been 7 years since I have had to go to the Emergency Room. I've been off of all pharmaceutical drugs for almost 8 years and I only see my doctor once a year to get my OMMP renewed and check on the progress of the cancer. My overall medical costs are vastly reduced, and my quality of life is much improved. I do not miss spending so much time in the hospital and pharmacy.

"Natural Medicine"? Just because it comes out of the ground doesn't mean that it's speacial and pure. follow me around the forrest for a while and see how many things you can put in your mouth that will kill you dead! If you want to smoke weed, don't hide behind medical marijuana, just come out and say I like smoking weed and I want it to be legal!

DSL - I can hope you are kidding trying to equate pedophilia and adultery with medical marijuana which is a legitimate medicine taken under a doctor's advice. Otherwise you just are another example of the unreasoning Reefer Madness mentality supporting the utterly failed prohibition War on Some Drugs policies. Ah well...

i bet the repubs will decline the offer... idiots

Matt Johnson December 5, 2007 5:12 pm (Pacific time)

Wow, doesn't this last guy reveal his character without trying to! I hope the anti-natural plant coalition can come up with better things than just revealing their repressed pedophilia. Yeah, that's a smart comparison to using a natural medicine, what a joke!

Dope Smoking Losers December 5, 2007 3:51 pm (Pacific time)

There are many other types of drugs one can take that has the same affect as marijuana. The medical marijuana law is a crock. Gosh, I need to have sexual relations with girls under eighteen because my 34 year old wife just isn't doing it for me anymore. COME ON PEOPLE!

Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich are the only candidates on record who would end the federal War on Drugs if elected. While the MSM still censors and pays little attention to the both of them (especially Kucinich), Ron Paul is starting to take off in NH and is going to surprise a lot of people. A vote for Hillary or Rudy guarantees more of the same BS from these hand-picked establishment favorites. Join the revolution! VOTE RON PAUL in 2008

The Republicans haven't cared about states rights for a very long time. What a ruse! Remember that it was BUSH who repeated the "state's rights" line dozens of times while running for office. THEN, after the masses believed his LIE, he refused to uphold Oregon's right to die law, and allows the DEA to intrude in every state and ARREST people for being legal medical marijuana patients- through their state government and with the affirmation of their voters. No, Republicans don't really stand for anything anymore. Or rather, they only stand for what will personally pad their pockets best. That's a good enough reason to not have a clean conscience, a strong character- and in their case- a TRUE constitution! The Dems may not be much better (swayed as the wind blows) but some of their points have never changed. The majority of them DO have thinking minds, and I give them credit for CARING about the health, welfare and future of ALL Americans. I can't say the same for Republicans. Sad isn't it?

Neal Feldman December 5, 2007 10:42 am (Pacific time)

Used to be Republicans cared about States rights but that was when states were voting the way they wanted on things like abortion etc and the feds would override them.... now the states are voting more progressive and the neo-cons want to just override on the federal level. Which is why they need to be completely shut out of national as well as statewide politics as long as the neo-con ideology so completely opposes the constitutional rights and political will of the voters. Their "we don't care about facts, we are right no matter what" attitude is eventually pissing off enough folks that their support continues to shrink which is the only good thing about it... they are marginalizing themselves for decades to come. So things will hopefully get better as the conservative bloc splits between the religious fanatics and fiscal conservatives and libertarian extremists. Ah well...
