Medical Marijuana: Magnificient Maestros

Memorial to Tod Mikuryia and Jack Herer; it's a crying shame we've lost both.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - Everybody in the world owes these two fine gentlemen a great debt of gratitude. Prior to them coming on the stage, cannabis/marijuana was considered a vile substance causing rape, murder, robbery, assault and anything else bad Harry Anslinger and the Hearst Newspapers could dream up for great political gain for Anslinger, and great financial gain for Hearst, who owned one of the few real magnificent castles in the U.S. in San Simeon, California.

Dr. Tod Mikuriya

Some forty years ago, when Dr. Mikuryia became a psychiatrist and started studying drugs with effects on the brain, he started studying cannabis, which was known to produce euphoria, a strong stimulating action on the brain, as well as hallucinations. He was soon relieved of his government position for even suggesting that cannabis might have some beneficial medical effects.

The facts were that before 1900, cannabis as medicine was the most popular, most used, most beneficial drug used in the U.S. and the world in general. He did the research going back 1,000 years and wrote the book, 'The Marijuana Papers' - which remains to this day the best compendium of information about cannabis as medicine. There is no other book which comes even close to its utility.

After this he was the spear point of the effort to get cannabis/marijuana legalized in California, which happened in 1996. For his intellectually driven advocacy he was harassed by the California Medical Board and ultimately fined $75,000 and had severe restrictions placed on his highly ethical but controversial medical practice. As a result of his advocacy, California now has about 2,000 places where at least 300,000 patients can buy their medicine, and hopefully may be fully legalized soon.

Jack Herer and Dr. Phil Leveque at Hempstalk 2008

Jack Herer is no less of an outstanding advocate for medical cannabis/marijuana but also advocated its use as hemp for thousands of uses. He knew of the tremendous value as medicine and was once thrown in jail for its use. That did not slow him down.

He wrote the most complete book about cannabis as medicine and 1000's of other uses, 'The Emperor Wears No Clothes', which is highly regarded all over the world, except by the U.S. government peabrains who purport that cannabis is dangerous.

Thousands of physicians and other researchers have gained the right spirit and courage to do the outstanding work proving its medical benefits.

Herer's book is printed in 20 languages and has probably sold about a million copies.

Dr. Mikuryia and Jack Herer are two of the most intelligent men I have ever met. Dr. Mikuryia is a member of MENSA with an IQ of at least 160. He was a very contemplative person who wrote songs, played the guitar and sang madrigals from the 17th Century.

Jack Herer, I called a blithe spirit. He was like a big teddy bear and more fun than a barrel of monkeys. His intellectual accomplishments have been truly outstanding.

I have no hesitation in calling him a real mensch, (Yiddish for a real down to earth person).

Cruel fate, why have we lost both?
