North Marion County Firefighters Food Drive Saturday

Food and cash donations collected by firefighters and the Boy Scouts will be distributed locally in their respective communities.

(WOODBURN) - Photo: Woodburn Fire Department The North Marion County Firefighters Annual Food Drive will be held this Saturday from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM.

Firefighters from the Woodburn, Hubbard, Aurora, Donald and Waconda stations will be driving through their respective communities.

Food collected in the Hubbard, Donald, Aurora area will be distributed through the Hubbard Police Reserves organization.

Thanksgiving Night Fire Damages Woodburn Apartment

The two occupants of the apartment were taken to a local hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

(WOODBURN) - On Thanksgiving night the Woodburn Fire District responded to a report of fire in a apartment at 601 Young St, Woodburn.

Upon arrival, the first engine found a fire in the bedroom of one of the apartments.

The fire was contained to the room of origin, moderate smoke damage to the apartment.

The two occupants of the apartment were being evaluated for possible smoke inhalation.

Investigators said the cause of the fire was a burning candle.

Woman Receives Minor Injuries in Deer Attack Near Woodburn

Police and state wildlife officials are reminding the public to keep deer and other wildlife wild – do not approach or feed wild animals.

(WOODBURN) - Girl and deer An Aurora-area woman was injured Thursday morning in an unusual incident in which she was attacked by a deer while retrieving mail along Highway 214 near Woodburn. The woman was treated and released at a local hospital.

The deer has not been located.

At approximately 9:30 AM, 58-year-old Annie Saunders, from Aurora, was at work at Sunwest Spas located at 13201 Highway 214 near Woodburn.

Investigation Underway in 2-Month-Old Boy`s Death

The state medical examiner will conduct an autopsy this week.

(WOODBURN) - Child death investigation Police in Woodburn are investigating the death of a 2-month-old Woodburn boy.

Police and fire were called to the boy’s home by his 16-year-old mother just before 10:00 AM.

The mother told 911 dispatchers that her son was laying in her bed, not breathing.

She told police that she had laid him down for a nap, and when she returned two hours later noticed he wasn’t breathing.

An Oregon State Police dispatcher on her way home from work found the man lying in the road.

(WOODBURN) - Hit and Run ots art Woodburn police are asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle that was involved in a deadly hit and run accident early Sunday morning in Woodburn.

Police believe the incident occurred somewhere between 2:15 AM and 2:30 AM on Highway 99E at James Street.

52-year-old Pedro Chilar from Woodburn was killed in the incident.

Woodburn Fertilizer Sued for Age Discrimination

EEOC Says Company Pushed Out Older Worker After 10 Years of Successful Employment.

(WOODBURN) - Woodburn Fertalizer "Woodburn Fertilizer, a branch of the Wilbur-Ellis Company,
subjected a long-time employee to harassment and unequal treatment because of her age and then forced her to quit", the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed Thursday.

The EEOC's suit asserts that Carolyn Arzino, an experienced, 55 year-old accounting secretary, faced age harassment and treatment different from younger co-workers at Woodburn Fertilizer.

According to the EEOC, after ten years of excellent service, Arzino received an unwarranted poor performance evaluation, was put on probation and suffered repeated derogatory comments about her age.

Local Farmworkers Will Build New Community Radio Station

"The huge mobilizations this Spring of immigrants have demonstrated more than ever the power of radio," -- KPCN Start-up Coordinator Adrian Valladares.

(WOODBURN) - Between August 18th and 20th, farmworkers and families and supporters from across the Willamette Valley, the Northwest, the United States and around the world will join PCUN in Woodburn to build an entire radio station from the ground up.

After that will come opportunities for local people to become involved in all aspects of the station’s operation, one of only ten such stations across the nation.
