Investigation Underway in 2-Month-Old Boy's Death

The state medical examiner will conduct an autopsy this week.

(WOODBURN) - Police in Woodburn are investigating the death of a 2-month-old Woodburn boy.

Police and fire were called to the boy’s home by his 16-year-old mother just before 10:00 AM.

The mother told 911 dispatchers that her son was laying in her bed, not breathing.

She told police that she had laid him down for a nap, and when she returned two hours later noticed he wasn’t breathing.

The names of the child’s parents, both 16, are not being released until the investigation into the boy’s death is complete.

The story was released by the police so it's potential newsworthiness is to be seen. We do not rush to publish these types of stories and you see by the length of it that we gave it no more than we needed to. My personal hope is that running these stories allows a chance to remind people how important it is to be on the ball when it comes to childcare.

This looks like a classic SIDS case. What makes it newsworthy? Do the cops know something they're not sharing? Just seems like an awful tragedy that is made so much worse by the attention. My sympathies to the family.
