Oregon, Nationwide Gas Prices Holding Steady

Gas prices this week have leveled out in all four of Oregon's measured metropolitan areas.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - man pumping gas Gas prices in Oregon remain flat, after skyrocketing this fall.

AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says, "The national average is $3.09 for the second week in a row, while Oregon's statewide average is again at $3.15 per gallon. Consumers are wondering what gas prices will do in the remaining weeks of 2008. Our best guess is that prices will continue to hold fairly steady."

The price of crude has fallen a couple dollars this week to around $95 per barrel after increased speculation that OPEC will decide at a meeting next week to boost production.

Missing 9-Year Old In Oak Grove Found Safe

New information indicates that this juvenile was located safe – unharmed - and is reunited with her family in Oak Grove.

(Oak Grove , Ore.) - Missing 9-year old girl from Elk Grove, Oregon The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office was asking for the public's help in seeking a 9-year old girl who failed to return home today, but the girl has now been safely located.

Information received from the Clackamas Sheriff's Office indicates that this juvenile is no longer missing, she was located safe and unharmed. Sheriff's Office Spokesman Jim Strovink says she has been reunited with her family in Oak Grove.

Crash Kills Clatskanie Man Near Deer Island

The highway was closed five hours.

(ST HELENS, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Deer Island in Oregon, 11-18-07 One person died early Sunday morning when the vehicle he was driving crossed into the opposite lane of travel on Highway 30 near Deer Island, collided with a street sweeper and then caught fire after striking a guardrail.

The 1993 Ford pickup operated by the victim was northbound on Highway 30 Saturday at 4:00 AM near milepost 39 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed into the southbound lane and struck the left side of a 1995 Ford street sweeper.

Vancouver Police Make Arrest in Homicide

Orlin Campos-Cerna was booked into the Clark County Jail for First Degree Murder.

(VANCOUVER, Wa.) - handcuffs Vancouver Police have arrested 27-year old Orlin Campos-Cerna for a deadly shooting that happened October 11th of this year near the intersection of 26th Street/ Fairmount Avenue.

When Vancouver Police arrived at the scene, they say they found a subject seated in the drivers position of a vehicle at the location. The subject was later identified as Jose S. Avila. He had been shot once in the head.

War Protesters Clash Repeatedly With Olympia Police (VIDEO)

Tensions are seriously out of control as war protesters battle police in riot gear armed with chemical agents.

(OLYMPIA, Wash.) - war protest Salem, Oregon sure is a mellow place in comparison to Olympia, Washington, the capitol city of our northern neighbor. War protesters held police at bay for 17 hours last Saturday, successfully forcing a military convoy back into the port.

Their main problem is the shipment of military supplies in and out of the Port of Olympia. Saturday their objective was to block a convoy of Stryker vehicles being moved into the fort. Ironically, the Stryker is one of the few vehicles in use overseas that allows soldiers to survive IED blasts.

Washington Deputies Investigate Homicide in Clark County

The victim in this case has been identified as Larry Van Schaick's wife, 25-year old Erin F Van Schaick. Anyone who spoke with Larry Van Schaick on 11-12-07 is encouraged to call investigators.

(VANCOUVER, Wash.) - Police tape Clark County Sheriff's Office units were dispatched to 5706 NE 58th Court Monday just after receiving a report that a male at that location had two cut wrists and was bleeding.

That isn't what they found on scene though, instead the located the deceased body of the wife of the man making the 911 call, who deputies were later able to locate.

Coast Guard Investigation in September 2006 Freighter Collision Released

Details are announced in the incident involving the Freighter Barkald and sailing vessel Essence in Long Island Sound in September 2006.

(NEW YORK) - Ms. Gina Bortolotti drowned after a vessel she was a crew member aboard, was struck and sank by the 623-foot coal carrier Barkald, also shown in the photo. The U.S. Coast Guard is announced the conclusion of its investigation into the cause of an early morning collision between the motor vessel Barkald and the sailing vessel Essence in Long Island Sound September 20th 2006, that left a crewmember onboard the Essence dead.

Ms. Gina Bortolotti, a cook onboard the Essence, drowned in the aftermath of the collision.

Study Finds Combat Vets More Likely to be Unemployed and Earn Less

Higher rates of disability could be a contributing factor.

(VANCOUVER, Wash.) - American soldiers fighting in Vietnam Combat veterans from the military draft period --- those who fought in America's wars from World War II to Vietnam --- are less likely to be employed or to have been employed. If employed, they tended to earn less than either noncombat veterans or nonveterans of the same age.

Those are some of the preliminary findings of a study conducted by Alair MacLean, assistant professor of sociology at Washington State University Vancouver, and funded by the National Institute on Aging.
