Washington Deputies Investigate Homicide in Clark County

The victim in this case has been identified as Larry Van Schaick's wife, 25-year old Erin F Van Schaick. Anyone who spoke with Larry Van Schaick on 11-12-07 is encouraged to call investigators.

(VANCOUVER, Wash.) - Clark County Sheriff's Office units were dispatched to 5706 NE 58th Court Monday just after receiving a report that a male at that location had two cut wrists and was bleeding.

Sgt. Tim Bieber with the Clark County Sheriff says the person making the report told the 911 operator he had come home to find 43-year old Larry Van Schaick inside his residence bleeding. The caller left the residence and called 911, then awaited contact from deputies at a nearby market, according to Bieber.

"When deputies arrived at the residence they discovered a trail of blood around the back door of the house. When deputies did not receive a response at the door they made entry into the house in order to check the welfare of the occupants. Upon clearing the house they discovered a deceased female in one of the bedrooms. The area was secured and the Major Crimes Unit was called to the scene."

Bieber says an area search for Larry Van Schaick was conducted, but he was not located.

Then today at 8:00 AM, 911 received a phone call from Larry Van Schaick asking for help. Van Schaick was unable to provide the dispatcher with his exact location, but Bieber says the dispatcher was able to obtain a general area based on the cell tower being activated by Van Schaick's phone.

"As the dispatcher continued to speak with Van Schaick, he was able to provide a description of the area he was in. With this information patrol deputies were able to locate Van Schaick in the fenced area of a drainage pond at NE 48th Av and NE 52nd St. Van Schaick was taken into custody without incident and transported to SW Washington Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries."

Van Schaick is currently being interviewed by detectives. Once the interviews are complete he will be booked into the Clark County Jail. The exact charges he will be booked on are unknown at this time.
