Veteran`s Resource Meeting in Salem on Friday

Currently ten percent of Oregon's population are military veterans, yet Oregon is one of only three states without a major military installation.

(SALEM, Ore.) - An Oregon National Guard officer inspects a battered Iraqi MiG-23 jet fighter at the Balad Air Base The Salem Area Veteran Resource monthly meeting will be held Friday, 18 September at 12:15 p.m. in the Winema building on Chemeketa Community College campus 4001 Winema Place, room 102.

Anyone who provides any kind of service to veterans is invited to attend. Special guest speaker will be SFC Phil Maas from the Oregon Army National Guard Yellow Ribbon Program.

Never Deployed `Colonel` Wilson Missed Vietnam

Deferments Through 1972 then "Shepherded" into Reserve Billet to Avoid Vietnam.

(CINCINNATI, Ohio) - Joe Wilson Wilson was prime material for the Vietnam War. After taking deferment after deferment for college and law school, in 1972, Wilson was glided into a coveted Army Reserve billet, protecting him from service in Vietnam.

He quit in 1975 with the fall of Saigon and transferred to the National Guard where he was a Judge Advocate, a "lawyer." Wilson has one of the worst records in Congress, having voted against Veteran funding 11 times. The only "veteran" Wilson has helped is himself.

Schwarzenegger`s Veto of Veterans Bill is a Slap in the Face

It is a sham when politicians use veterans as political pawns.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Schwarzenegger He may be from the Republican party, one that constantly lauds its wonderful appreciation and good treatment of veterans, but California's governor is anything but a friend to those who served, this week at least.

The former movie star has clipped the wings of a bill that would have honored Vietnam Veterans. It was a simple designation of a particular day to honor those who served in a war that claimed over 58k lives.

Our quest to gather material for an upcoming hour-long television documentary on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is progressing well. The point of this program is education for those who suffer from this type of stress, and for their families.

We actually started shooting for this program one year ago in Iraq, when I had the rare opportunity to interview soldiers and Marines about PTSD while they are still serving in the combat theater.

A Band Against Brothers?

Army unit with questionable financial connections charged with attacking protesting vets.

(LOS ANGELES) - Salem-News.com A week ago, uniformed troops from the 311th COSCOM, a reserve non combat logistical command in Los Angeles assaulted protesting disabled veterans.

This command, whose leaders may have financial ties to the local land seizure group, is claiming "official" US Army backing for Rep. Waxman's actions now being protested by veterans groups.

What You Need to Know Before Leaving Active Duty & As a Veteran

Information that veterans and soon-to-be vets should print and keep handy.

(GARDEN GROVE, Calif.) - U.S. Army soldiers in Iraq If you’re active duty there is a program called the Pre-Discharge Program. This is a joint Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Department of Defense (DoD) program that affords service members the opportunity to file claims for disability compensation up to 180 days prior to separation or retirement from active duty or full time National Guard or Reserve duty.

The more information the Veteran can get for him/her self, the greater the control over their claim. That applies to those who are filing their own claims and to those using the services of a Veterans Service Officer.

Pickens, who refused to serve during the Korean War, stuck it to paralyzed veterans when his challenge was met and his Swift Boat politicos were proven liars.
