The US Abandonment of the Hmong
Chuck Palazzo Salem-News.com
How easily we forget those who saved our lives!
(DA NANG, Vietnam) -
Many of us may recall the peace loving, and US loyal peoples of Vietnam. There are many stories that have been told of how these wonderful and such courageous folks fought with us, alongside us, protected us, and died with and for us.
Some of us remember them as the Montagnards.

Veterans: Banished and Betrayed
Barton Kunstler Special to Salem-News.com
Harsh new measures have now snared immigrants who spilled their blood for our country.
(SAN DIEGO) -
“Banished veterans." The phrase shouldn't make sense. Someone joins the military, fights in a war, returns home, and then is banished? Thankfully, this can't happen here...
But it is happening here. Thousands of men and women who have risked their lives in the country's wars have been deported or are living under the threat of deportation because they committed non-violent crimes that often wouldn't warrant serving jail time.

The Doc says unlike depression, anguish is very close to what a PTSD sufferer experiences.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
Dr. Phil Leveque and Bonnie King discuss a very important subject, that is the connection between PTSD and depression.
The VA says PTSD amounts to depression, but Dr. Leveque, who has suffered from PTSD since 1945, says the finding is geared toward saving the VA more money.

VA Medical Mistreatment: Gross Betrayal of Veterans Nobody is Responsible
Dr. Phil Leveque Salem-News.com
The VA doctors have a proclivity for prescribing powerful, adverse-side effect drugs. Oxycontin is the worst example
(MOLALLA, Ore.) -
On January 3, 2010 CBS aired a program about one million mistreated, disabled veterans having disability claims DELAYED, DENIED by a system that waits for them to DIE.
This is so perversely punitive and sick one would think the VA is part of the NAZI death camps. The results are often the same.

The Fragging of American Officers: Historic Problems and Future Planning
Tim King Salem-News.com
An American Vietnam War officer describes the day a soldier tried to kill him with a hand grenade.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
This is the story of a man who survived an attempt on his life, by chance... and he is traumatized by it to this very day. Why do soldiers kill their leaders?
It is a historic problem, what matters is how it is recognized and dealt with.

Company of the Year... Monsanto?
Chuck Palazzo Salem-News.com
Maybe they could hire Charles Manson to be their spokesperson?
(DA NANG, Vietnam) -
What a slap in the face. What an insult. What a display of ignorance. What little to no compassion, let alone admission of guilt to the war crimes this company was involved in.
No, they were never convicted – because they settled out of court like Dow and the rest of the criminals who created, sold, and made hundreds of millions of dollars creating, selling and reaping the profits from Dioxin – yes, Agent Orange.

Marine Drill Instructor Remembered
Robert J. O'Dowd Salem-News.com
Marine veteran remembers a senior drill instructor who was awarded the Navy Cross with the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines (the “Walking Dead”) in Vietnam and later killed at Con Thien, RVN, in September 1967.
(SOMERDALE, N.J.) -
Racial prejudice was the norm when I arrived at Paris Island as a new Marine recruit 48 years ago. To this day, it’s hard to believe that Jettie Rivers wasn't affected by the abuse he experienced growing up in Alabama and Tennessee.
Jettie Rivers was an extremely fair, disciplined man in an environment where others often stepped across the line. In 1962, this was exceptional behavior for a Marine Corps drill instructor.

Military Suicides: Soldiers Driven to Desperation Deaths
Dr. Phil Leveque Salem-News.com
They are the highest in history.
(MOLALLA, Ore.) -
I am appalled beyond repugnance to even read my own title. It seems that the Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force all have the same problem but the Infantry really gets it in the rear echelon.
They won’t accept one into the service with ANY vestige of MENTAL DISORDER. Then they drive him crazy enough to kill himself, then they call it ADJUSTMENT DISORDER and a pre-service condition and it is all the suicide soldier or Marine's weakness.

Are Gulf War Vets Getting Better VA Treatment Than the Vietnam Generation?
Gordon Duff Salem-News.com
If you compare Vietnam vets and their ability to get through the disability process, with Gulf War vets, Vietnam vets lose by astounding figures.
(CINCINNATI, Ohio) -
One war lasted around ten years, and the other, just 4 days. One war had 47,000 combat deaths, the other had 147. However, there are 1.1 million Vietnam veterans on disability pensions and, according to the DVA, nearly 900,000 Gulf War I vets on pension.
In the gulf war, for every combat death there were over 6,000 disabled veterans. In Vietnam, for every combat KIA, there are 21 disabled veterans.

PTSD Therapy: Talk it Out: Blatherskite Grey`s Anatomy Shrink Bombs Again
Dr. Phil Leveque Salem-News.com
Don’t the script writers know that PTSD is the biggest, worst psychological problem of returning PTSD vets, whether they were carrying a musket or a scalpel?
(MOLALLA, Ore.) -
I have the greatest respect for the TV show Grey's Anatomy. The blood and guts of training to become a surgeon is realistic and the overall attrition rate is far greater than the general public can conceive.
The general reader will know what I am talking about. Some doctors believe they can effectively walk on water and on underlings, and the term Primadonna is too close to the truth.
