Oregon Running Back Duo on Doak Walker Award Watch List

Former UO running back LaMichael James won the Doak Walker Award for 2010.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon Football Junior Byron Marshall and sophomore Thomas Tyner of Oregon were named Thursday to the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker Award as the nation's best running back.

Marshall and Tyner previously were named to the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award as national player of the year, along with UO quarterback Marcus Mariota.

Ducks Marcus Mariota Named to O’Brien Award Watch List

Last week, Mariota was named to the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award as national player of the year.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Marcus Mariota His bid for the Davey O’Brien Award having been derailed by injury last year, Marcus Mariota will get another crack at being named college football’s top quarterback in 2014.

Mariota, an Oregon junior, was named Wednesday to the preseason watch list for the O’Brien Award. The Hawaii native was a semifinalist last year, before a knee injury slowed him in November.

Ducks LB Derrick Malone on Two Award Lists

The Butkus Award is given to the nation’s best linebacker, based on “athletic achievement and service to the community.”

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon linebacker Derrick Malone Two major college football awards released preseason watch lists Monday, and both included Oregon senior linebacker Derrick Malone.

Malone, who led the Ducks with 105 tackles in 2013, was named to the watch lists of both the Butkus Award and the Rotary Lombardi Award.

Oregon Athletic Trainer Receives National Honor

Heather Halseth, who works with the UO soccer and acrobatics and tumbling teams, was recently named National Collegiate Assistant Athletics Trainer of the Year.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Heather Halseth A member of one of several unheralded but critically important departments in UO athletics recently received a national award for her contributions with the Ducks.

Heather Halseth, an athletic trainer on the UO medical staff since 2005, was named National Collegiate Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year two weeks ago at a national convention in Indianapolis.

Three Oregon Players Among Rimington, Mackey Award Nominees

Also Tuesday, junior Pharaoh Brown and sophomore Johnny Mundt were named to the preseason watch list for the John Mackey Award.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon Ducks Football Senior center Hroniss Grasu and two young tight ends were the latest Ducks named to preseason awards watch lists, as announced Tuesday.

Grasu was previously announced in May as a member of the watch list for the Rimington Trophy, which again released its list of preseason nominees Tuesday. Grasu was a finalist last season for the award, which goes to the nation’s best center.

Former McNary, Nebraska Softball Star Joins the Ducks

Last season Decker started all 62 games for the Huskers and was named first team all-Midwest Region and first team all-Big Ten.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - HAILEY DECKER Oregon Ducks The Oregon softball team has signed Nebraska transfer and Keizer, Ore., native Hailey Decker, head coach Mike White announced on Thursday.

Decker will be a junior next season for the Ducks and can play immediately. The NCAA does not require softball players to sit out a season when transferring.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Devon Allen University of Oregon University of Oregon freshman hurdler Devon Allen was named the USATF Athlete of the week after capturing the 110 meter hurdles title in a stunning upset at the U.S. Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, California, on Sunday, June 29.

Allen also won the NCAA Outdoor Championship in the men’s 110 hurdles in June.

Former Oregon Football Stars Coming Home for Events

The Regional Sports Center at 200 S. 32nd St. in Springfield will host an event this Saturday called “Dixon 2 Dickson Quacks Give Back.”

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon Ducks Football Several alumni of the Oregon football program will be back in the Willamette Valley this month to participate in community outreach.

Former UO quarterback Dennis Dixon and tight end Ed Dickson are among the biggest names scheduled to appear this Saturday at a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Emerald Valley, and at a youth camp next weekend in Clackamas organized by a UO football alumni organization.
