Reward Offered in Stayton Burglary and Vehicle Theft

A $1000 reward for anyone with information which leads to an arrest is being offered.

(STAYTON, Ore.) - Police in Stayton are investigating a series of thefts from Karsten Manufacturing. They say that on Sunday, they were notified of a stolen vehicle, Theft, and a Burglary.

The Burglary occurred sometime between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM on Sunday. During that time someone gained access through a chain link gate and stole a white colored 2003 GMC 1 ton flatbed truck valued at $25,000 with a license plate of T542790.

Sex Offense Suspect Arrested by Stayton Police in Sublimity

The suspect, John Alvin Taylor, was arrested at his residence without incident.

(SUBLIMITY, Ore.) - Oregon Sex Abuse suspect John Alvin Taylor A man suspected of sexual abuse at a retirement center in Sublimity was been arrested by Stayton Police today, after an investigation that began on September 30th, 2005.

Stayton Police say that at that time, they received a report of a possible sexual offense which is alleged to have occurred at Marian Estates, located at 390 Church Street in Sublimity.

The reported victim was a 70 year old resident. The reported suspect was an employee of Marian Estates.

Four Teens Cited for Stayton High Greenhouse Fire

The fire was started by the boys who were playing with fireworks.

(STAYTON, Ore. ) - Stayton High School Four Stayton teenagers were referred to the Marion County Juvenile Courts in connection to a fire that burned the greenhouse at Stayton High School to the ground last year.

Stayton police spokesman Lt. Rich Sebens says they received a tip on Tuesday about the teens who were bragging about the crime.

The four boys, two 14-year-olds, a 15-year-old, and a 13-year-old, were cited and released to their parents later that day Sebens said.

OSP Investigating Early Morning Shooting on Highway 22

(STAYTON ) - The Oregon State Police is investigating a reported shooting that allegedly occurred along Highway 22 in the Stayton area early Friday morning.

The adult male victim received a non-life threatening wound and is being treated at an area hospital.

At approximately 1:48 AM, a report was received from the victim advising he had been shot while stopped on the westbound shoulder of Highway 22 near milepost 13 east of the Santiam Golf Club.

Attempted Robbery Suspect Sought

The suspect fled on foot. No money was taken from the manager of the local Rent-A-Center.

(STAYTON) - Attempted Robbery OTS art Stayton police are asking for the public help in locating a suspect who attempted to rob a Rent-A-Center store manager Tuesday morning.

According to police, the suspect attempted to use pepper spray on the manager, but fortunately he was unable to. The suspect fled on foot, and no money was taken from the manager.

The suspect is described as a male is his 20s to 30s, 5’10, and 170 pounds, wearing a long-sleeved gray paid shirt and black-colored nylon pantyhose over his hear.

Weyerhaeuser Donates $10,000 to Stayton Public Library Expansion and Remodeling Capital Campaign

The funds will help remodel and build an addition to the library, primarily for use in the children and youth sections of the library.

(STAYTON) - The Stayton Public Library has received a $10,000 grant from the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation.

“Many of our iLevel associates and their families use the library, and it’s especially important to provide reading opportunities and access for all of our children locally,” said Rina Allen, manager of Weyerhaeuser’s iLevel facility in Stayton. “At Weyerhaeuser, we are committed to our communities in which we operate and this is a way for us to give something back.”

Allen said grant-making decisions are made at the local level by a group of company employees.

Police Canine Captures Suspect in Creek

(STAYTON) - A Stayton police dog and his handler apprehended a stolen car suspect after a brief chase Sunday night.

Stayton police spokesman Stg. Rich Sebens says officer Brandon Hamilton attempted to stop a car driving without tail lights just before 9:00 PM, when the driver sped away.

After a short chase through several neighborhood street, the driver fled on foot and into a creek.
