Break in and Robbery In Stayton

Police are asking anyone who might have seen something at this location to please call them.

(Stayton, Ore.) - Scene of break in at Stayton, Oregon 4-23-08 Police say that sometime early Wednesday morning, someone threw a concrete water cover through the plate glass window of Dirk's Barber shop at 263 N. 3rd. Ave; in Stayton Oregon.

It was discovered early Wednesday morning by a worker at Wave Broadband Cable Company, the next door neighboring business, and called into Stayton Police at 7:27 AM.

`Not In My Back Yard` is Stayton`s Reaction to Skate Park Idea

Stayton residents voice concerns over youth and skaters but a city board says they will explore other areas.

(STAYTON, Ore.) - Skateboarders are viewed as a threat in Stayton, Oregon A public meeting was held at 6:30 PM in Stayton at the community center Wednesday night April 16th concerning the need for a skate park and a location for it.

The 5 member Parks and Recreation panel along with City Public Works Director, Mike Faught, and Lt. Rich Sebens of the Stayton Police Department were in attendance as well as 28 members of the community, including 6 teenage skateboarders.

Stayton City Council Considers More Local TV Programming

The council also discussed mandatory setbacks and received an update on the city water system.

(STAYTON, Ore.) - Ken Cartwright is one of the people trying to revive Stayton's community access television system. The Stayton city council met last night and councilors present were Scott Vigil, Steve Frank, Don Walters, Tim Grimes and mayor Virginia Honeywell. Absent was Don Koenig.

The first presentation of the evening to the council, made by this reporter, regarded the need for a community access television system. In the presentation it was noted that the designated channel 19 that was set aside for this purpose is under-utilized.

Stayton Deals With Several Issues at Last Night`s City Council Meeting

Ken Cartwright brings us up to speed on the latest news from Stayton city government.

(STAYTON, Ore.) - Pioneer Park, in Stayton, Oregon A number of items were addressed at this week's city council meeting in Stayton, Oregon. City councilors present at Monday night's meeting were Scott Vigil, Steve Frank, Don Koenig, Don Walters, Tim Grimes and Mayor Virginia Honeywell.

Items covered include a proposed skate park, city annexations, a Chamber of Commerce fee sharing agreement for the annual summer car show, and the development of a conservation play of standard for the future and development of the park.

Stayton Discusses Skate Park During City Council Meeting

Councilors present Tuesday night were Steve Frank, Don Walters, Tim Grimes & Don Koenig by telephone. Presiding was Mayor Virginia Honeywell.

(STAYTON, Ore.) - In opening remarks, Stayton City Councilor Grimes said that this city is not serving all the residents by limiting where people, namely young people, can congregate or recreate. He spoke about the need for a skate park and that currently anyone wishing to skateboard must leave town.

16-year old Colton Bradley spoke to the city about the need for a skate park so that young persons have a clean place to go and burn off energy and skateboard where it's legal. They say they are tired of being chased off from many places in the city that have banned skateboarders.

Experimental Plane Crash Kills 3 in Linn County

The plane crashed in a harvested corn field about 1/4 mile from the nearest residence. No one on the ground was injured.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Triple fatal plane crash site in Linn County, Oregon, 2-8-08 Deputies in Linn County and the FAA are investigating the crash of a small single engine airplane that claimed the lives of the three men aboard Friday when the plane crashed at 10:20 AM.

Stayton`s Oldest Home Demolished

The local phone company owns the property and they tried to save the house prior to its destruction by offering it for sale for 1$ to anyone that could move it.

(STAYTON, Ore.) - Oregon's Stayton House in the last day in its 134 years A Stayton landmark disappeared last week when construction crews razed the town's oldest house, originally built in 1873 by Drury E. Stayton, one of the founding families of this community.

It happened Wednesday about 9:00 AM, when Canyon Contracting began demolishing the old grey Stayton Family home located on High street between first and second street on the north side of the street. This house, according to local resident Bob Remington, was the oldest in Stayton, existing since 1873 when it was constructed by Drury E. Stayton.

Stayton Man Faces Rape and Sex Abuse Charges

Police working on the case believe the alleged contact occurred in the suspect's Stayton residence.

(STAYTON, Ore.) - Handcuffs Stayton Police officers arrested a man in connection with a report of child sex abuse. Sergeant Michael Meeks with Stayton Police says the suspect, 24-year old Justin J Scott of Stayton, faces several charges.

"Investigators believe Justin Scott had sexual contact with a minor relative."

Regis High School in Stayton Spray Painted by Vandals

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has suspect information is asked to call Stayton Police at (503) 769-3421.

(STAYTON, Ore.) - Photo of vandalism at Regis High School in Stayton, Oregon 9-12-07 Stayton Police say an unknown group of individuals vandalized Regis High School this morning, spray painting the outside walls of the school, parking lot, track, football field, bleachers and lawn.

It happened around 7:30 AM, after police received a report of first degree criminal mischief at Regis. "Obscene pictures and words were painted causing an estimated $5000 in damage." Stayton Police Department Lieutenant Rich Sebens said.

Bend Man Tries to Elude Deputies in RV

A breath test on the suspect showed his blood alcohol content at .25, more than three times the legal limit.

(STAYTON, Ore. ) - Irvin Wetzell photo On Tuesday, just before 4:30 PM, Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Matt Wilkinson noted that a recreational vehicle he was following on Hwy 22 east of Stayton had expired registration tags.

He stopped the motorhome, a 21' 1978 Flair, at about mile post 28 and contacted the driver, 45-year-old Irvin Wetzell, of Bend.

As Deputy Wilkinson was talking to Wetzell, Wetzell put the motorhome in gear and drove away westbound on Hwy 22.
