Journalist`s Death a Sign of Sri Lanka`s Brutalisation?

Many cannot believe she is no longer with us.

(COLOMBO) - Mel Gunasekera One of Sri Lanka's most prominent journalists, Mel Gunasekera, was stabbed to death in her home, on Sunday. Although this death does not appear to have been politically motivated, Sri Lankans have reacted by lamenting what they say is the "brutalised" nature of their country.

To wake up to the news that a friend has been murdered is shocking.

(CHENNAI Business Standard) - Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today said that steps would be taken to bring in a resolution against Sri Lanka in the United Nations after the general elections.

Replying on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address in the State Assembly today, Jayalalithaa said that as the Parliament elections are slated soon, then the government would change and the scenes would also change.

Sri Lanka Christians Protest After Attacks by Buddhist Extremists

Two churches and a Christian prayer center were attacked on January 12 by Buddhist mobs claiming they were illegal and aiming to take Buddhists away from their religion, WWM reported.

(COLOMBO) - Christians in Sri Lanka Recent attacks on Christian places of worship by Buddhist extremists have sparked protests in the Sri Lanka capital against a perceived lack of religious freedom, World Watch Monitor reports.

The organization reports the story of Christians around the world under pressure for their faith and it said that more than 2,000 Christians gathered in Colombo on Sunday to protest.

Sri Lanka`s own Northern Council Calls for Int`l War Crimes Investigation Against Sri Lankan Leaders

The call for international investigation is to investigate killings that took place in the final months of the war between Sri Lankan Government and Tamil rebels called Tamil Tigers.
