(WASHINGTON, DC) - On this New Year’s Day, January 1, 2014, Tamil entities around the world pledge our renewed commitment to bring freedom, justice, peace and dignity to our Tamil brethren living in the occupied NorthEast of Sri Lanka.

With our diverse backgrounds we are united in working for our people who have been oppressed by the successive Sri Lankan regimes since “independence” in 1948, and pledge to work against the continuing oppression of the Tamil Nation.

The HRC consists of 47 UN members states, who decide on matters related to human rights situations in any country. Therefore it is absurd for you to lobby Ban-Ki Moon. Neither the UN Secretary General nor the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights can stop any resolution being passed in the HRC.

(PARIS) - In recent days, I learnt that you, Defence Secretary - Gotabaya Rajapaksa, brother of President Mahinda Rajapaksa met some dignitaries.

This was to prevent any resolution coming against Sri Lanka in the forthcoming 25th session of the UN Human Rights Council - HRC in Geneva. Among the diaspora a few are not happy about your new role but I am extremely happy and welcome you.

Happy New Year, Mr. President, and Help SL Tamils with Two Important Things in 2014, Says Tamils For Obama

Tamils for Obama wishes the president a good 2014 and asks him to get behind an international investigation into war crimes committed by Sri Lankan officials during and since the ethnic war, and to help the Tamil victims in northeastern Sri Lanka to determine their own destiny.

(NEW YORK) - In a letter sent to President Obama recently, Tamils for Obama wished the president a happy 2014 and asked him to help the SL Tamils in two significant matters.

"We told the president there are two things the Tamils in Sri Lanka need from him in 2014," said the press spokesman for Tamils for Obama.

Upwards to 100,000 Tamils were killed in this civil war; some 40,000 in its final few weeks. There are as many dead, disappeared and in exile as the two million remaining in Sri Lanka.

The LLRC is a commission appointed by the Sinhalese Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to look into any possible wrong doing that government forces are accused of having committed in the last months of the civil war between it and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

(COLOMBO, Sri Lanka) - Several months prior to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) was held in November 2013 in Colombo, a massive operation to make the city of Colombo look clean and attractive for the event, was implemented by the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development.

Part of this operation was to remove nearly 300 homeless dogs from the streets, and house them in temporary shelters.

Tamil Council to Count Sri Lanka War Casualties

Sri Lanka has repeatedly rejected allegations that its troops killed civilians while battling the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, who were also accused of using civilians as a human shield.

(COLOMBO Arab News) - The provincial government in Sri Lanka's main Tamil region said it would compile its own death toll from the country's ethnic war, saying an ongoing census would play down the number of casualties.

Tamil officials said the census ordered by President Mahinda Rajapakse last month would give a distorted picture because of its "flawed" terms of reference, arguing that a more credible alternative was needed.

(COLOMBO TamilNet) - A young journalist from Tamil Nadu, Thamizh Mahaapirapaaharan, who was touring in the North was arrested by the occupying Sri Lankan military and the SL police Wednesday at noon.

At the time he was talking to the parish priest of St. Antony’s Church in Ponnaavea’li, news sources in Vanni said.

Joy and Fear for Christians in Sri Lanka
