Oregon Hosts World Junior Championships

Oregon freshmen Christian Brennan (400), Maggie Schmaedick (5,000) and Cole Walsh (pole vault) will each be competing, with Brennan representing the Canadian National Team.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Hayward Field The world’s best junior athletes will converge at Hayward Field this week for the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships, beginning Tuesday and ending on Sunday, and involved in the fray will be six current and future Ducks.

It will mark the first time in the event’s 14-year history that the world championships are contested on American soil.

Mike Riley Announces Change in Oregon State Football Leadership

Oregon State begins preparations for the 2014 football season with the first practice scheduled for Mon., Aug. 4.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State Beavers Oregon State head football coach Mike Riley has announced the promotion of Todd McShane to assistant director of player personnel.

McShane assumes the role that was vacant due to the promotion of Ryan Gunderson to director of player personnel.

Salem-Keizer Volcanoes End First Half on Sour Note

The Volcanoes start an eight-game homestand Tuesday night at Volcanoes Stadium against Spokane.

(BOISE, Idaho ) - Salem Keizer Volcanoes Justin Marra's leadoff bottom of the eighth inning home run lifts Boise to a come-from-behind win over Salem-Keizer 7-6 Monday night on the final day of the Northwest League first half in front of 1,814 at Memorial Stadium.

The Hawks were down 5-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning but had a five-run inning to grab the lead from the Volcanoes.

Lewis will perform these duties on top of his coaching responsibilities with the Warrior men's soccer team.

Portland Thunder Make AFL Playoffs Despite Loss

The Thunder return home for the regular season finale against the Spokane Shock on July 26 at 7:00 p.m.

(PHOENIX, Ariz. ) - Portland Thunder The Portland Thunder (5-12) got their playoff practice in down in the desert, but the Arizona Rattlers (15-2) walked away from the game with the win, 66-55.

The Thunder defense started the game off right, with a rare stop of the Arizona offense on downs.

Oregon High School Track Coach Arrested on Sex Abuse Charges

Investigators are concerned there may possibly have been other victims.

(MADRAS, Ore. ) - Melissa Bowerman The head track and field coach at Madras High School was arrested Monday by Oregon State Police related to an investigation into an alleged unlawful relationship with a 17-year-old male member of the high school track team.

Subsequent investigation, in cooperation with the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office, identified the juvenile male and developed evidence that led to her arrest related to alleged unlawful conduct since May 2014.

In Race 1, Sebastien Bourdais claimed his 32nd Indy car career win.

(TORONTO) - Sebastien Bourdais Mike Conway earned his second Verizon IndyCar Series victory of the season by holding off Tony Kanaan over a three-lap sprint to the finish in the second race of the Honda Indy Toronto doubleheader.

Conway, driving the No. 20 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka car for Ed Carpenter Racing, won by 3.5418 seconds following the Lap 54 restart after a red flag with 4 minutes, 23 seconds left in the 80-minute race.

As in the past, Viking football will have a one-hour pre-game show and half-hour post-game show with each broadcast.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Portland State Football Portland State Football will have a new radio home in 2014 as the Vikings can be heard on Fox Sports Radio 620 AM.

The Viking Athletic Partnership and Fox Sports Radio have signed a three-year agreement to carry Viking games.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon Ducks Football The rollout of preseason award watch lists concluded Friday with UO quarterback Marcus Mariota and cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu each adding to already impressive lists of accolades.

Mariota and Ekpre-Olomu, each of whom returned to school despite being considered top NFL draft prospects, were named Friday to the watch list for the Walter Camp Football Foundation’s player of the year award.

Western Oregon`s Akins Gets Pre-Season Selection

Western Oregon's 2014 schedule features 11 games, with four being played at McArthur Field in Monmouth.

(MONMOUTH, Ore. ) - Western Oregon Football Western Oregon University football student-athlete, Kraig Akins, was tabbed third team All-American by the Beyond Sports Network website.

Akins was named to the defensive line. He was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2013.
