Oregon State Names New Women`s Golf Coach

Chergo launched the University of Denver’s women’s golf program and turned it into a perennial nationally-ranked team.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State Golf Catherine “Sammie” Chergo (pronounced Cher-go), who was the head women’s golf coach at the University of Denver from 1998-2013 and qualified to the NCAA Tournament 11 times, will lead the Oregon State women’s golf program as head coach, OSU Director of Athletics Bob De Carolis announced Friday.

“We were fortunate to have an exceptional pool of candidates for our vacancy; Sammie quickly rose to the top,” De Carolis said.

WOU Football Golf Tournament Aug. 18 in Salem

All proceeds from the tournament benefit the WOU Football Association.

(MONMOUTH, Ore. ) - WOU Logo The Western Oregon University football team is having its 10th annual golf tournament at the Salem Golf Club on Aug. 18.

Costs for those interested in participating in the event are $125 for singles and $400 for foursomes. Sponsorships are also available.

Oregon Running Back Duo on Doak Walker Award Watch List

Former UO running back LaMichael James won the Doak Walker Award for 2010.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon Football Junior Byron Marshall and sophomore Thomas Tyner of Oregon were named Thursday to the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker Award as the nation's best running back.

Marshall and Tyner previously were named to the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award as national player of the year, along with UO quarterback Marcus Mariota.

Corban Women`s Soccer Signs McKenzie May

May comes to Corban as a transfer student-athlete following attending Western Washington University during the 2013-14 school year.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - McKenzie May Head women's soccer coach Marty Ziesemer has announced that McKenzie May had signed a letter of intent to join the Corban University women's soccer team for the fall of 2014.

"We are pleased to add a player of McKenzie's ability for the fall," commented Ziesemer. "She has great speed, can play a variety of positions."

The Santiam Canyon Stampede was established in 1997 as a PRCA sanctioned rodeo. Following the 1999 season the rodeo was purchased by the community and re-organized as a nonprofit corporation.

Beavers Mannion Named to O’Brien Watch List

In 2013, Mannion set the league’s single season passing record with 4,662 yards and a school-record with 37 touchdown tosses.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State Sean Mannion Oregon State senior quarterback Sean Mannion has been named to the 2014 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List, released Wednesday by the Davey O’Brien Foundation. Mannion is one of 39 signal callers on the initial list.

Mannion, who has 32 career starts to his credit, has rewritten the Oregon State and Pac-12 Conference record books.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - OSU Women Basketball Three matchups with 2014 NCAA Sweet Sixteen participants, including true road games at North Carolina and Tennessee, highlight the 2014-15 Oregon State women’s basketball non-conference schedule, when dates and opponents were announced Wednesday.

Of the Beavers’ 11 non-conference opponents, four made the NCAA Tournament in 2014 (North Carolina, Tennessee, BYU, Idaho) and one made the WNIT (Butler).

Ducks Marcus Mariota Named to O’Brien Award Watch List

Last week, Mariota was named to the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award as national player of the year.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Marcus Mariota His bid for the Davey O’Brien Award having been derailed by injury last year, Marcus Mariota will get another crack at being named college football’s top quarterback in 2014.

Mariota, an Oregon junior, was named Wednesday to the preseason watch list for the O’Brien Award. The Hawaii native was a semifinalist last year, before a knee injury slowed him in November.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Corban College Baseball Corban University Head Baseball Coach, Jeff McKay, and Associate Head Baseball Coach, Jacob Garsez, announced on Wednesday morning that 11 players had signed letters of intent to play with the Warrior Baseball team.

"This 2014 recruiting class expectation is two-fold," said McKay. "First, the junior college and four-year transfers provide some needed reinforcements in key areas where we needed to add depth."
