(EVERETT, Wash.) - The Volcanoes blank the AquaSox thanks to the spectacular start from Nick Gonzalez with a 1-0 final score in front of a Kid's day game crowd of 3,639 at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Gonzalez, who entered the game with the ninth-best ERA among starting pitchers in the Northwest League, added to his resume the best start of his 2014 season. The lefty went six innings of shutout baseball allowing just two hits and a walk featuring six strikeouts, a season best for Gonzalez.

The bullpen of Dusten Knight and Eury Sanchez wrapped up the final three innings, capped off the first shutout of the season for Salem-Keizer in a virtual must-win ballgame eyeing an outside chance at the Northwest League South Division first-half title. Sanchez pitched the eighth and the ninth inning for a six-out save, his fourth in as many outings.

The Volcanoes scored in the first inning on a leadoff double from Seth Harrison, scoring on a groundout from Christian Arroyo.

The AquaSox were limited to just five base runners in the blanking.

Salem-Keizer improves to 16-17 as the AquaSox drop to 9-24 on the season.
