One Person Dead After Stabbing in NE Salem

UPDATE: One adult male was killed, and another adult male is being detained by police during the investigation.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Police Investigation Salem-News.com is on scene of a fatal stabbing in the 4700 block of Niles Ave NE.

Salem Police say one person has been detained in the incident, and there are no other suspects currently being searched for. Salem Police have closed off the area, and residents are leaving their homes and nobody is being allowed into the area, until police have concluded their investigation.

Oregon State Penitentiary on Lockdown After Large Fight

Visiting is canceled until further notice.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem The Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem has been placed on lockdown Thursday following a large fight between inmates.

OSP officials say at 12:20 p.m., approximately 30 inmates were involved in an altercation in the dining room, prompting OSP guards to place the institution on lockdown.

Dead Body Found at South Salem Park

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Woodmansee Park Disc Golf Course Salem Police are on scene of a body found at a popular park in south Salem.

Salem-News.com was there at Woodmansee Park, located off Sunnyview Road, as police and detectives searched for clues as to what may have happened. The body was found in the parks popular 9-hole disc golf course, which is a located in a heavily wooded area.

Salem Man Killed in Ore. Highway 18 Crash

OSP troopers from the Newport Area Command office are continuing the investigation.

(OTIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State Police Death Investigation A Salem man has been identified as the person killed in a June 23 crash on Highway 18.

The Polk County Medical Examiner confirmed positive identification of 22-year-old Jason E. Machado, who was killed when the 1997 Ford Escort he was driving crossed the centerline and collided with a Mercedes SUV.

Salem Gas Prices Jump 3 Cents; Oregon Nears $4 Dollars a Gallon

Salem area average gas prices in the past week have jumped 3-cents to $3.98.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Salem Oregon Gas Prices The majority of drivers in the U.S. will pay the most expensive gas prices for the 4th of July holiday since 2008.

The national average reached its year-to-date high of $3.70 on April 28. The Oregon average could breach $4 a gallon given the global run-up in crude oil prices, but unless there’s a major disruption to supply in the Middle East, prices are not expected to climb much higher than that.

The goal of the statewide campaign is to reduce the number of motor vehicle related deaths and injuries by increasing public awareness of driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Police in Salem Catch Vancouver, Washington Fugitive

Hanson and a female allegedly assaulted a 64-year-old man in Esther Short Park on June 23 after the female asked the man for money.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Jason A. Hanson Police in Salem have arrested a man who is wanted in connection with the assault of a 64-year-old Vancouver, Washington man.

Vancouver police say 23-year-old Jason A. Hanson was arrested in Salem on an unrelated matter, and police are working to get Hanson back to Vancouver as soon as possible to face charges in the assault investigation.

Salem Area Residents Preparing Now for Summertime Heat

The rest of the week including Independence Day, temperatures will range from the mid to upper 80’s, to lower 70’s.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon Capitol Fountains It’s getting warmer in Oregon! The National Weather Service says on Tuesday in Salem and the mid-Willamette Valley the high temperatures in most cities will reach well into the 90’s.

The rest of the week including Independence Day, temperatures will range from the mid to upper 80’s, to lower 70’s with the chance of showers returning to the valley on Sunday. Come Monday however, the sun should be back with temperatures in the lower 80's.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Oregon Stabbing Oregon State Police investigators are continuing their investigation into a stabbing that occurred at the Oregon State Fairgrounds early Saturday morning.

A seriously injured juvenile male was found near the Pavilion with multiple stab wounds.
