The Merck Manual indicates 20 percent of women and 12 percent of men will suffer clinical depression. This is a rather depressing world we’re living in.
Antidepressant drugs are among the most prescribed medications but their adverse side effects can often be paradoxically lethal with suicide being prominent.
Todays TV news presents a new electromagnetic machine for depression which stimulates the brain which probably causes cannabinoid secretions which makes patient subjects feel better. It had better, a treatment series costs 6 thousand dollars.

El Toro`s Wells Still Suspect
Robert J. O'Dowd for Salem-News.com
The quest for information into the history of serious toxic contamination at a now-closed Marine base in Southern California continues.
(SOMERDALE, N.J.) -
Marines at the El Toro air station in Orange County, California were contaminated by a toxic chemical and government agencies seem to have lost copies of the multi-million dollar contracts.
The Marine Corps Air Station at El Toro is closed now; the base wells abandoned and destroyed. For over 50 years, the Navy spent millions to purchase water for El Toro and the nearby Santa Ana Air Facility. But today the Navy can't explain why the water was purchased or the reasons the base wells were abandoned. The integrity of the wells and the dates abandoned are important since the wells were located in the path of a major trichloroethylene plume.
Trichloroethylene or TCE, is a chemical degreaser marketed and sold by Dow Chemical. For decades the product was used on military bases like El Toro to clean military equipment. At El Toro the TCE was used to strip grease from Marine jet fighter aircraft.

Combat Soldier Pointman: Fix Bayonets And Marching Fire
Dr. Phillip Leveque Salem-News.com
Phillip Leveque has spent his life as a Combat Infantryman, Physician Pharmacologist and Toxicologist.
(MOLALLA, Ore.) -
To my fellow Combat Infantry Dogfaces:
I volunteered for the Army in May 1944. I had just graduated from Oregon State College in Chemistry and I had been trained as a Toxicologist. I was the first one at Oregon State. I had been reading in the newspapers about the bloodbaths at Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, North Africa, Sicily, and Italy.
Almost all of my friends were in the service. I had been deferred to finish my chemistry training. I knew the Army could use a chemist/Toxicologist in case of chemical warfare. I was trained for that and then sent to the 89th Infantry Division to be a Chemical Warfare Non-Com. When I got there they had already selected him. My First Sergeant told me, “We’re putting you in the Intelligence Section”.

IVAW members arrested while attempting to present questions to Obama and McCain
Salem-News.com
In a repeat of the Vietnam era, some of the most vocal advocates for ending the war are those who served in it.
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) -
One hour before the final presidential debate of the 2008 campaign, fourteen members of Iraq Veterans Against the War marched in formation to Hofstra University to present questions for the candidates. IVAW had requested permission from debate moderator Bob Schieffer to ask their questions during the debate but got no response.
The contingent of veterans in dress uniforms and combat uniforms attempted to enter the building where the debate was to be held in order to ask their questions but were turned back by police.
The IVAW members at the front of the formation were immediately arrested, and others were pushed back into the crowd by police on horseback. Several members were injured, including former Army Sergeant Nick Morgan who suffered a broken cheekbone when he was trampled by police horses before being arrested.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) -
On Sunday, October 12th in the Oregonian was an excellent but disturbing story on this subject. The main story was about an 18-year old male Marine raped by his Staff Sergeant. I was surprised to see this on the front page of the Oregonian but NOT surprised of its factuality.

The Oregonian Reveals Treatment of PTSD Disabled Veterans A Shameful Reality

(MOLALLA, Ore.) -
I am much relieved to finally see a sympathetic article about PTSD Vets in the Oregonian, Sept 28.
Many of non-battle civilians have the attitude about PTSD that “it’s all in your head" and "just get over it”. Well yes, it is “in our heads” but unfortunately it is stuck there. It rarely gets out and once in a while, as written in Brian Denson's excellent short stories, it explodes.
Sometimes and even frequently PTSD will jump out of one's mind with disastrous results.
Recent murders and suicides by homecoming PTSD Vets is the best or worst example depending on how one perceives it.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) -
I’m getting so I’m not surprised at anything adverse about the VA, The Army, George Bush.
A recent email from Paul Sullivan Executive Director of Veterans for Common Sense brought the following information:
(1) Bush sent 1.7 million to Iraq, etc
(2) 860,000 are eligible for VA assistance
(3) 347, 750 have been diagnosed and treated
(4) 147,744 diagnosed with mental problems
(5) 75,719 diagnosed with PTSD
I stand corrected. It is much worse than I ever imagined.

PTSD: The Veterans Avalanche is Here

Phillip Leveque has spent his life as a Combat Infantryman, Physician Pharmacologist and Toxicologist. After surviving WWII, he went on to treat veterans for years who suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
(MOLALLA, Ore.) -
As a former Combat Infantry Veteran, victim of PTSD and physician for PTSD veteran victims, I keep my eyes and ears open about any information about the subject. That is how I kept alive as a point man and forward observer during WWII (Read my book about Blood and Guts, General Patton.)
Today is July 29th, 2008. Last night on CBS I heard Katie Couric state that the VA (I suppose) had a new PTSD hotline which had over 50 thousand calls in the last 12 months and 12 thousand vets were under care. What type of care was not indicated but that is progress. My mind asked----"What about the other 38 thousand?" This is Beau coups serious.
