Search Resumes for Two Boys, 4 And 5, Missing in Rural Clatsop County

The U.S. Coast Guard helicopter has joined in the search for the two boys, and their 10-month old lab.

(ASTORIA) - A search is under way in rural Clatsop County for two young brothers, ages 4 and 5, who wandered off while camping at an old family home.

The family, from the Portland area, was wrapping up the trip when the boys disappeared around 10:30 AM Monday.

The home, is located on Lillenas Road off Oregon Highway 202, about 11 miles from Astoria.

The boys are blonde and dressed in white t-shirts, light-colored shorts and sandals.

They are accompanied by a 10-month-old black Labrador retriever.

Coast Guard Busy With Rescue Operations on Coast Saturday

The boys, ages 10,15, and 17, became stranded as the tide began to rise.

(LINCOLN CITY) - Oregon Coast Guard U.S. Coast Guard rescuers were busy Saturday along the central and north Oregon Coast. The first call came in just before 1:00 PM.

The Coast Guard then rescued a 15-year-old boy from an offshore rock near Lincoln City just before 2:00 PM. Coast Guard Station Depoe Bay received a call from Lincoln City dispatchers that two boys were trapped on an offshore rock near Lincoln City.

The new service should help those planning to stay overnight on the busy Oregon coast.

(PORTLAND) - Oregon Coast If you’ve ever been frustrated by heading out to the Oregon coast during the summer and not being able to find a room, you may have found a friend online.

The Portland-based Website BeachConnection.net is starting weekly updates on lodging availability every Friday. The website covers the upper half of Oregon’s coast, some 180 miles. This week, it began providing information about which lodgings and vacation rental companies still have openings for the weekend.

Three Men, Clinging to a Cooler, Rescued From Cold Ocean Waters

Only one of the men was wearing a life jacket.

(TILLAMOOK) - Coast Guard rescue The U.S. Coast Guard rescued three men from the cold waters of the Oregon Coast near Tillamook Friday night.

The men had been missing for around seven-and-a-half hours in water with temperatures as low as 65 degrees and were found clinging to an ice chest among the debris of their vessel.

Oregon Coast Aquarium Set to Open Western Snowy Plover Exhibit

The exhibit includes four chicks recently hatched at the Aquarium.

(NEWPORT) - A celebration will commemorate the opening of the Oregon Coast Aquarium’s new permanent Western Snowy Plover Exhibit Tuesday at 12:30 PM.

The exhibit includes four plover chicks that were recently incubated and hatched at the Aquarium, which has been successful in past rehabilitation and release of western snowy plovers.

In addition, two more rescued chicks have been brought in this week, and will be introduced into the exhibit when they are acclimated to the new environment. The exhibit is fully functioning as it was intended; to rehabilitate rescued plovers with the goal to release them back into their natural habitat.

Health Advisory Issued For Three Coastal Beaches

(LINCOLN CITY) - Public health advisories were issued Wednesday due to higher-than-normal levels of bacteria in ocean waters at three locations -- near the storm water outfall at the Ecola Court beach access point at Cannon Beach in Clatsop County, Rockaway Beach in Tillamook County and D River State Park Beach in Lincoln County.

Water samples indicate higher-than-normal levels of fecal bacteria, which can result in gastroenteritis, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections and other illnesses. Direct contact with the water should be avoided until the advisories are lifted, especially for children and the elderly, who may be more vulnerable to waterborne bacteria.

Fish and Wildlife Commission Limits Commercial Crab Pots

(Salem, Oregon) - crab The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission moved to establish limits on the number of Dungeness crab pots commercial crab boats may fish in the ocean during their Dungeness crab season.

The decision came after more than two years of meetings with the public and members of the crab industry. The pot-limit plan grew out of a crab summit last July, when crab fishermen met with the Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission and ODFW to discuss issues important to the industry.

Coast Guard Seeking New Members For Citizen`s Action Network

The only requirements for participating are having access to a phone and a view of the water.

(NEWPORT) - Oregon Coast The Coast Guard is looking for dependable and proactive volunteers to assist in keeping the waters of the Pacific Northwest safe and clean.

Citizen's Action Network, a program that assists the Coast Guard in protecting waterways and communities in the Northwest, is looking for additional volunteers along the Oregon and Washington Coasts and the Columbia River.

The Coast Guard calls on Citizen's Action Network members to assist with a variety of missions to include search and rescue, pollution incidents and aids to navigation.

Citizen's Action Network is successful in not only lending aid to the Coast Guard, but it also saves taxpayers thousands of dollars.

It costs approximately $1,200 per hour to operate a Coast Guard 47-foot motor lifeboat.

Porn Superstores Doing Well on Oregon Coast

(NEWPORT) - Pornography has turned into a booming business on the Oregon Coast.

Spice Adult Video is the second adult "superstore" to open along Highway 101 in the past year. A third shop, Wayne's Adult World, opened in Astoria in January 2005.

The latest store has already attracted protests and even a counterprotest by teenagers with signs that said "We love porn."

Oregon Coast Guard Station Receives Five Hoax Calls This Month

(NEWPORT AP) - Coastguard logo Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay has received five hoax calls this month.

The calls received in Yaquina Bay came in the form of a "Mayday" call for help on V-H-F channel 16. That's the emergency channel that is monitored by the Coast Guard 24-hours a day.

Hoax calls also cost taxpayers thousands of dollars annually. Each hoax call can result in the Coast Guard launching ships, boats and aircraft that could otherwise be used in legitimate search and rescue efforts.
