Springtime Brings Beach Safety Reminder

(LINCOLN CITY) - Gleneden Beach Two annual springtime events that begin this weekend along the Oregon Coast bring with them a beach safety warning from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

Both the SOLV Great Oregon Spring Beach Cleanup and the opening day of spring whale watch, begin Saturday.

OPRD officials say everyone heading to the coast for spring break needs to remember that the ocean is still at winter strength, and even in sunny weather the combination of powerful seas, eager visitors and drift logs left behind by winter storms can have deadly results.

Lincoln County Holding School Shooting Drill During Spring Break

Specific information on the drill will be provided to area radio stations at the start of the drill. The exact date, time and location will not be announced to the public prior to that.

(LINCOLN CITY) - beach Heading to the coast to get away during spring break???

Well, don`t be shocked or alarmed if you see a bunch of police and fire vehicles heading for, or outside a school in Lincoln County.

Lincoln County police agencies, the Lincoln County School District, Oregon State Police, area fire departments, and other county public safety agencies will be participating in a coordinated emergency school shooting drill at one of Lincoln City's schools during spring break, March 20th through 24th.

OWEB Funds 22 Projects Supporting Coastal Coho

(Newport) - Oregon license plate Oregon's commitment to recovery of coastal coho salmon was boosted Thursday through votes of the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board to fund 22 projects in coastal rivers and streams in the amount of $2 million.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries announced in mid-January that Oregon coast coho populations from Seaside to Cape Blanco do not warrant listing under the federal Endangered Species Act.

Tillamook Forest Center Opens April 1st

The center is the outgrowth of a public-private partnership 10 years in the making

(TILLAMOOK) - The Tillamook Forest Center The Tillamook Forest Center, Oregon`s newest visitor and interpretive facility, located on the Wilson River Highway in the heart of the former "Tillamook Burn," will open to the public on the first day of Oregon Arbor Week, Saturday, April 1st.

The center`s 40-foot tall replica of a fire lookout tower has already become a local landmark, as has a dramatic 250-foot-long pedestrian suspension bridge, which leads from the building across the Wilson River to the nearby Jones Creek Campground.

Tests Indicate That Victims of Capsizing had Meth in Their Systems

(TILLAMOOK - AP) - Tillamook Bar The three men who died when a crabbing boat capsized near the mouth of Tillamook Bay last month had methamphetamine in their bodies.

According to the state medical examiner's office, the captain of the boat, 32-year-old Craig Larsen, of Hammond, had toxic levels of the drug in his system.

Magnitude 3.2 Quake Rattles Oregon Coast

The USGS says some Salem-Keizer area residents felt the morning quake

(Newport) - earthquake map A minor earthquake rattled the central Oregon coast on Saturday, getting the attention of coastal residents as well as valley residents throughout much of Western Oregon.
The quake was felt from Seaside to Newport, and inland to parts of the Willamette Valley including Marion, Polk, Yamhill, Benton, and Linn counties.
Experts at the U.S. Geological Service say the earthquake happened Saturday morning just after 9:30 AM...
