Oregon Sees Four Fatal Crashes Saturday

The weather brings residents outdoors in droves; but this sunny day is shadowed by multiple fatal crashes on Oregon's roads.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Fatal crash investigation Oregon State Police are on the scene of a fatal crash on Highway 99 near Savage Rapids Dam; at 6:45 p.m. Saturday they responded to a fatal traffic crash happened Highway 38 between Scottsburg and Elkton, involving a single motorcycle.

State troopers were called to the scene of a fatal crash at 4:45 p.m. on Highway 18, near milepost 5 in Lincoln County. Before that, they responded to a fatal traffic crash on Highway 101 south of Bandon.

Commercial Skipper Pleads Guilty, Sentenced in Crab Pot Thefts

OSP Fish & Wildlife Division still has about 65 crab pots stored at the OSP Newport office while troopers continue to find their owners.

Teen Who Died During Rescue Awarded Gold Lifesaving Medal Posthumously

The Gold Lifesaving Medal was established by Congress in 1874 and is one of the oldest military medals.

(SEATTLE ) - Gold Lifesaving Medal Awarded to the family of Ross Barfuss A Gold Lifesaving Medal was posthumously awarded to a local hero named Ross Barfuss at Aloha High School in Aloha Oregon, Thursday.

Ross died at the age of 16 while attempting to rescue a 12-year old boy who was caught in heavy surf near Cutler City, Oregon on March 8th 2008.

Whale Buried at Heceta Head State Scenic Viewpoint (PHOTOS)

The true cause of this whale's death may remain a mystery.

(FLORENCE, Ore.) - Whale being buried near Florence, Oregon A fin whale carcass that washed ashore at Heceta Head State Scenic Viewpoint Sunday was successfully buried at the same beach Monday.

The 55' long, ~30-ton carcass that rested above the high tide line at the park was buried in an 11' deep hole.

Dead Whale Leads to Closure of Oregon Beaches (VIDEO)

A chance to retell some explosive history regarding whales on the beach in Florence, Oregon.

(FLORENCE, Ore.) - KATU whale on beach blowing up Heceta Head State Scenic Viewpoint and the Devil's Elbow beach north of Florence have been closed until further notice due to the presence of a dead whale.

Drawbridge at Florence, Oregon Stuck in `Up` Position

The south end of the Florence, Oregon drawbridge in locked in the "up" position.

(FLORENCE, Ore.) - Salem-News.com U.S. 101 in Florence is closed due to a drawbridge malfunction on the Siuslaw River Bridge, according to Oregon Department of transportation Spokesman Joe Harwood.

"Northbound and southbound traffic is backed up for a few miles on either end of the bridge," Harwood said.

Death Investigation: Highway 101 South of Gold Beach

Preliminary investigation indicates no sign of foul play and that the man may have taken his own life by locking himself in the trailer, starting a large motorcycle inside and asphyxiated himself.

(GOLD BEACH, Ore.) - Truck involved in death investigation in Gold Beach, Oregon Oregon State Police, with the assistance of the State Medical Examiner's Office and Monroe Police Department, are completing the investigation into the death of a missing Monroe, Washington man found Tuesday inside a locked utility trailer along the southern Oregon coast.

The man, whose body was found after troopers forced their way into the trailer, apparently locked himself inside and asphyxiated himself.
