Fugitive Accused in Oregon Deputy`s Death Arrested In Mexico After 10 years on the Run

The suspect fled the country in 2007 after being accused of causing two deaths in a head-on car crash.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Alfredo De Jesus–Ascencio On June 16, 2007 Deputy Fredinburg was enroute to an emergency call on Highway 99E when his patrol car was struck head-on by a vehicle driven by De Jesus Ascencio.

Deputy Fredinburg's patrol car caught fire and he was pronounced deceased at the scene

Old-Fashioned Driving Directions May Keep You Alive this Winter

OSP is warning the public about the dangers of mapping software or GPS units that may lead motorists into a dangerous situation during winter months.

(SALEM, Ore.) - oregon road closures Highway 22 is currently closed and motorists traveling between Central Oregon and the Willamette Valley are being urged to take Highway 20 through Sweet Home or Highway 26 through Government Camp.

Over the weekend, OSP Dispatch received several calls of motorists attempting to take Highway 22, but being rerouted by their GPS units onto Forest Service roads near Detroit.

School Bus Crashes with All Aboard

The kids are all alright.

(SALEM, Ore.) - school bus crash Today at about 3:30 PM, Marion County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the 11400 block of Sunnyview Rd NE regarding a traffic crash. This crash involved a school bus full of kids, all of which are ok, and a smaller ford pickup.

The investigation has determined icy road conditions to be the cause. The driver of the pickup lost control and crossed the center line and hit the bus head-on.

94 Percent of Oregonians Now Have Health Insurance

Federal actions could reduce coverage, officials warn

(SALEM, Ore.) - OHP logo Nearly 94 percent of Oregonians have health insurance, according to a report released today by the Oregon Health Authority.

The survey, conducted between March and August of 2017, found that nearly 3.7 million Oregonians have health coverage. That’s an increase of 10 percentage points since 2014 when the Affordable Care Act and the individual mandate went into effect.

McMinnville Infant Death Investigated as Homicide

Officials say the baby sustained abusive head trauma that led to her death.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore.) - homicide investigation McMinnville Fire and Police Departments personnel were dispatched November 21, 2017 to an apartment attached to the residence at 1125 NE Irvine Street on a report of a 7-week old baby girl that wasn't breathing.

3 days later, despite the prompt attention and excellent care from all medical personnel involved, the infant succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Man Charged with Murder for Shooting in Yamhill

It all happened in the small town of Yamhill, Oregon.

(SALEM, Ore.) - RICHARD ROBERT MERSHON The suspect, Richard R Mershon, was reported to have gotten into an argument with a man that led to a physical fight. The physical fight quickly turned into a shooting, by a man that had been drinking.

Male victim number one told Police he had witnessed the suspect push a pregnant female, and she may have fallen down. The woman was apparently an employee of Zippy's Pizza, had been trying to help give the suspect a ride home because he was intoxicated.

Polk County Grand Jury Unanimously Finds Officer Involved Shooting Justified

"...use of deadly force was lawful and justified"

(DALLAS, Ore.) - Baltazar Escalona-Baez On Tuesday, a Polk County Grand Jury unanimously found that Polk County Sheriff's Sergeant Kevin Haynes and Polk County Sheriff's Deputy Kelly Lorence were justified in using deadly force when they shot and killed 17-year old Baltazar Escalona-Baez, of Silverton, on the morning of October 28, 2017.

...Escalona-Baez, still within arm's reach of Haynes, turned around and advanced directly towards Haynes, pointing the knife towards him. Haynes then shot Escalona-Baez twice.

WANTED: Unlawful Killer(s) of Black Tail Deer

Maybe the deer ran after being shot, but either way, someone needs to come forward.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com On Friday, November 3rd, 2017, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist located a black tail buck that was shot and left on Gravel Creek road.

The deer appeared to have been shot the night prior and was left with no meat taken. Oregon State Police is investigating the unlawful killing and waste of the black tail deer.
