Salem Police Plan Extra Patrols Over July 4th Holiday

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Police DUI Crash Salem Police Officers will be participating in a statewide traffic enforcement and safety campaign throughout the July 4 holiday weekend to focus on motorists driving under the influence of intoxicants.

The goal of the statewide campaign is to reduce the number of motor vehicle related deaths and injuries by increasing public awareness of driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Kayaker Pulled Out of Pacific Ocean Near Cascade Head

Both kayakers were wearing survival gear, including dry suits, life jackets and survival vests.

(NEWPORT, Ore. ) - Coast Guard Aircrew A Coast Guard Aircrew from Air Facility Newport rescued a male kayaker in the Pacific Ocean near Cascade Head, Oregon, Saturday morning.

The Coast Guard aircrew was conducting a harbor patrol at 11:45 a.m., when they saw two kayakers, one capsized and in the water, struggling to regain control of his paddlecraft.

Fire Guts Albany Home, Damages Several Cars

The homeowner was able to escape and exit with her child and pets before firefighters arrived.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - Fire Investigation The Albany Fire Department responded to 3750 Glendale St. at 12:47 a.m. Sunday to a report of a fire in a garage.

Firefighters arrived at the scene in about seven minutes and found a house partially engulfed in fire.

Through interviewing those involved, deputies located the shotgun believed to have been used in this incident, as well as a stolen rifle.

The Oregon Department of Transportation has received preliminary reports of 19 motorcycle fatalities this year (Jan. 1 to June 19, 2014); that’s a 100 percent increase from the same time period last year.
