(SALEM, Ore. ) - A two alarm fire destroyed a home just east of Salem Monday night.
Capt. Trent Friesen with Marion County Fire District No. 1 tells Salem-News.com that they were dispatched to a house fire near the intersection of Silverton Road and 64th Ave. NE just after 8:30 p.m. Because the area where the fire was located had no fire hydrants, crews called in a second alarm for additional resources.
Seven engines and four water tankers helped firefighters keep the large flames, or fire embers, from spreading to nearby brush, trees, and the Howell Prairie Cemetery, which is one of the oldest in Marion County.
No injuries were reported and the house was a total loss.
There was no damage reported to any of the headstones, graves, or any other items at the cemetery.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Salem-News.com will have more on this story when it becomes available.
