(SALEM, Ore. ) - The City of Salem Public Works Department wants you to BE AWARE! of a street project that is scheduled to start on Monday. The safety island construction project on Fairground Road NE near Hood Street NE is under way and scheduled to move to the second phase of construction on Monday. The second phase of construction will require the closure of the eastbound lane of Hood Street NE from Broadway Street NE to Cottage Street NE, and the northbound lane of Fairgrounds Road NE from Church Street NE to Shipping Street NE. Southbound traffic on Fairgrounds Road NE will continue to be allowed through the construction zone. This closure will remain in effect until the completion of the project on August 30. During this closure vehicles will be detoured north on Broadway Street NE to Madison Street NE, then east on Madison Street NE to Fairgrounds Road NE. This project is part of the Keep Salem Moving! Streets and Bridges Bond, passed by Salem voters in November 2008.
