Albany Parks & Recreation Department is offering new parent and child interactive classes this summer.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - Salem-News.com Albany Fire Chief John Bradner has declared July 9, the start of fire season due to ongoing hot, dry weather.

During fire season, weeds, grass, and other noxious vegetation that has been determined to be a fire hazard must be addressed to reduce the potential for fire in accordance with Albany Municipal Code 7.84.160.

Salem Teen Drowns at Three Pools Just Days After His Birthday

An impromptu memorial was held Tuesday at Houck Middle School at 1:30 p.m.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Sean Kaleopa As Salem-News.com was first to report just after 3:00 p.m. on Monday, emergency responders and the Marion County Sheriff's office responded to a fatal drowning at the three pools day use area on the North Fork of the Santiam River which is located 17 miles up from Ore. Highway 22, and 45 miles east of Salem.

The Marion County Sheriff's office has positively identified the boy who tragically drowned as 14-year-old Sean Kaleopa of Salem, who had just celebrated his birthday on July 4.

Illegal Aerial Fireworks Destroy Portland Home

Between 2009 and 2013 fireworks caused more than 150 injuries in Oregon alone.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Portland House Fire Illegal fireworks are to blame for a late evening fire that destroyed a Southeast Portland home Friday night.

Fire Investigator Rob Garrison arrived at the scene early into the firefight and could see that an aerial firework had landed on the rear porch awning.

Oregon Woman Pours Hot Grease on Sleeping Boyfriend

The victim was transported to a Portland hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Shiree Franklin The 4th of July holiday did not start well for one man, after his girlfriend poured hot grease all over him.

Portland police and medical units received a call around 2:45 a.m. to a residence in the 7000 block of Northeast 27th Avenue. When they arrived, they found a 54-year-old male victim suffering from significant burns to his face, chest and hands.

Police Investigating Shooting in NE Salem

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Oregon Broadway Shooting Salem-News.com was on the scene of a shooting incident that took place Friday afternoon in northeast Salem.

A 20-year-old male was taken to Salem Hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg, and at least two people were detained by police.

They have been released and currently there are no outstanding suspect(s) at large at this time, Lt. Jim Anglemier said.

Oregon State Penitentiary on Lockdown After Large Fight

Visiting is canceled until further notice.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem The Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem has been placed on lockdown Thursday following a large fight between inmates.

OSP officials say at 12:20 p.m., approximately 30 inmates were involved in an altercation in the dining room, prompting OSP guards to place the institution on lockdown.
